Help with re-wiring
Help with re-wiring
The previours owner really ****ed up the wiring on my 1991 civic si. All the wires are cut up and dangling there. The main power supply for instance, is not identifiable by color. Also, the insulating rubber on the ground wire is burnt up.
With a DMM, how can i test for presence of 12 volts to determine which wire is MAIN SUPPLY to stereo?
Just for convenience sake, is it OK if i route a wire attached directly to the postive battery terminal into the back of the stereo?
And a ground wire from chasis frame attached to the stereo's ground? I need a new ground since the original is burnt up.
How else can i connect a new main power line and ground if i want to use the ignition switch to turn on the stereo like it's mean't to be? Thanks in advace guys

ya alot of the main wires can be remade. for the battery wire (yellow usually), run it straight from the battery. then the ignition power you can tap off the ignition wire in the steering column, or even the 12v socket plug. create a separate ground to bare metal chassis, heck you can even run speaker wires from the deck to the speakers. you don't need the factory wires at all I don't think, well unless you have an antenna wire or something. but yea it would actually be better to run your own power cause the stock wires are kinda small. Just be sure you get some thick wire since you're going through the trouble.
