First System - Jumping into Car Audio
Never really been an Audio guy. But recently I've grown tired of my stock sound. First off I want to add the typical sub(s), amp(s). I searched a lot of sites and I know more about the specs of each than I do about the brands. Some brands I recognize, and some I don't. Please tell me what brands of subs you think are the best quality for the money and what amps have the best quality for the money.
Thanks alot,
M@

try diamond audio or alpine. The alpine type r in a sealed box sound pretty good for the money. ikesound.com has good prices and www.caraudio.com is a good car audio forum.

i've been through alot. started with kenwood deck and new speakers, good difference. wanted bass, got 2 subs, hi end pioneer deck, too heavy and loud, went down to one sub, wanted to save more weight, no sub, now no bass so completely redid the speaker install with dynamat and padding with an amp, got alpine deck, tweeters off deck power, it sounds awesome now and decent bass.
what i'm saying is decide what you really want now instead of jumping through hoops, and always remember the install will make or break your system (hint: best buy and circuit city do not install audio properly). do it yourself. dynamat is your friend.

My budget is low, but I want to limit it so I dont go crazy and end up changing it later. For just sub(s)/amp my budget is between 300-400. Reasonable for I want to do. I'm not going to compete with this I just want some bass.

let your ears tell you what brand is best. take a bunch of your favorite cds and go shopping. As long as the lyrics arent too offensive most shops dont mind you demo'ing their setups with your music

Just go to your local shop and do some listening, brands and specs really don't matter in the big scheme of things. Find what you like and then buy it.
Right now my biggest motivator is price. I'm looking at the Pionner DEH 6800 MP as my deck ($210 at www.sounddomain.com). Keeping stock speakers for now and adding my 20 gig mp3, Sattelite Radio, and subs. Do you guys think this is worth the $200 bux?

dont forget amp wiring kit.... $50-100
sub box.. $30 (homemade), $40-50 (ebay), $70-150 (store)
these subs $60 for one
this amp $140... awsome deal
try ebay for really good deals on amps (just remember warrent might go out the window)
What is the best sub (brand or exact speaker) for the money?
Not just loudness but quality.
Also I know this has probably been covered a lot but . . .
Which is better (2) 10's OR (1) 12, same brand sub same series which would be better for the performance and for the money.
i.e. - 2 - 10" Infinity Kappa Perfects or one 12" Infinity Kappa Perfect?

i will always say infinity for value and quality, but thats my preference. some people will spend 300 on just one subwoofer and think that it better than anything out there
if i were you just get one 10'' infintiy reference sub and hook it to an amp that can make about 200 watts... i just reliese im basiccally quoting myself again just look at what i posted before i guess

if you want to keep your trunk space and have a sub that hits hella hard id say go for a 12" alpine type r in a sealed box ( i shopped around and got a new one for $120, i think they wanted 300 or so at a store), i have one and that **** hits harder then my friends 15". Of course it needs to be compliented with a good amp and the rest of the stuff
to figure out whats best for you, you have to decide what your wants are and your budget. from what ive read, it seems that your main concern is adding more bass to your system. what i would suggest you do is get a line output converter for you headunit, a small amp (around 300-400w), and a single 10" sub ported. that will save you space but still give you the bass you desire. the ported box will also give you more output than a sealed box.
my prefered brand for amps is phoenix gold. you can find a pg x400.1 on ebay for less than $150 and the build quality is amazing. as far as subs go, if you can find an old pg titanium sub, you will also be very happy.

single 10 puts out alot of bass. difference between 10 and 12 is how you listen to music. if you like fast beat like trance/pop/rock and almost any other music like it, then 10s will be best at keeping up cause they move faster. 12s will be alot deeper cause they can play the notes lower. but it wont move as fast so on normal songs it will sound boomy and not as fast. rap music is good for 12s. but dont get the idea that 10s cant play the low notes, cause they still can.
Well, if you're gonna shop in stores like Circuit City & Best Buy, look for brands like Polk, Kicker, MTX, Pioneer, JVC, Infinity, Alpine & Kenwood. Cry, Run, and Call 911 if you see Rockford Fosgate, Sony Xplod, Audiobahn, Jensen, Lightning Audio, Dual and basically anything else you find. Dont be fooled by numbers and employees, I KNOW WHATS GOOD IN THE STORES. But, if you decide to go to any local shop, my best advice is to research what you're spending your money on, get reviews on that specific product, and even its brand. And get a demo of whatever you're gonna buy 1st. And try to get a hold of me if possible before you spend.
or you could go to a reputable local car audio store instead of a big box electronics store. they will be able to give you better advice because car audio is what they specialize in. they will also give you a better quality install in most cases.

I hear a lot of good things about the elemental designs subwoofers. Also the reaudio and adire audio subs are very nice.
I personally have 2 10" infinity reference subs pushed by a hifonics bx605...sounds great for what I listen to.

If you want a good sounding system, first think:
1. Deck..alpine is a good system which is affordable - This is where it all starts..remember.
2. Speakers - change em out (alpine, infinity)
3. Amp to power speakers - Apline again..recommended, though I have memphis...
4. Wiring (if you don't want to lose quality in signal get monster etc)
5. Sound Deadenin - usually cheap, makes HUGE improvement on sound.
There you go.

plenty of people love audiobahn, and RF has always been good.
I had a friend who did a budget system and ran 2 10s w/ a jensen amp there was nothing wrong w/it..
