Re-Wiring Some Stuff.....HELP

Just a couple of questions. I'm doing some re-wiring behind the head unit and installing my amps. Now, I've done this on a number of cars but do you think I could remember...? Do I hook up the remote wires for my amps to the power antenna wire? Do we even have a power antenna wire?

I could REALLY use the color code for the stereo harness as well. Thanks

-Steak

PS....it's a 2003 Vic EX Sedan

It should be a blue/whte stripe wire from headunit. It should labeled remote or similar.

Blue = power antenna

OK. Coming off of the Clarion wiring harness, there are 3 wires NOT being used.
Brown
Blue
Blue with White

Which one do I use for the Remote lines?

You should use the Blue one, however I believe that the blue with white stripe will work as well. Have fun

Actually, I tried the blue wire and it didn't work. The blue/white for the antenna actually makes more sense. When the radio is turned on, it sends a signal out to turn something on. Even if my explaination sucks and is wrong, it worked.....LOL. Thanks again.

Are you talking blue from the stock wiring harness or blue from the aftermarket wiring harness? The blue from the headunit did nothing but the blue/white gave me my signal I needed for the remote lines.

From aftermarket headunits, the blue wire is for power antenna and the blue with white stripe is for amp turn-on. If the headunit has both of these wires, using the blue wire for your amp may result in the amp turning off when using the CD or AUX. Some radios are setup to only power the antenna wire when the tuner is selected.

im confused is this correct?

BLUE WIRE - not used unless you have a power antenna

BLUE W/ WHITE STRIPE - To be used as remote wire when installing amps

is this correct? anyone disagree? im just trying to learn something that i didnt know. On my amp i ran the remote into the fuse box that is under our steering wheel by our feet and ran it right to one of the fuses in there. I think it was the radio fuse but any one of them will do it. It just tells the amp to turn on when the car turns on and that fuse gets power.

No, in our cars you have to hook up the power antenna wire. Even though we don't have a power antenna, it still needs to be hooked up to maximize the radio reception.

Not sure what that's all about but there's nothing to hook it up to and my reception is perfectly fine. Yes you have to use the blue with white off the aftermarket headunit for your amp remote lines. I did this shortly after I started this thread. I originally hooked up the blue for the remotes and it did nothing.

just an Idea... READ THE MANUAL!!!! the manual ALWASY has the wires labled, if not the wires them selfs are labled, and if you have a harness adapter (required for aftermarket hu) the wires are labled on the harness AND on the back of the plastic it came in.... HU instilation is not rocket science, if you can read, you can do it! I cant stand when pplz pay best buy or circut city or any other rip off artist 60+ $ for a simple instalation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry... im stuck working 12 hr shift and am missing a civic meet as speak... and I am dealing w/ people that have a lower IQ than my cat

You find me an aftermarket headunit manual that shows me the color code on their harness and you might actually have a point but with all the headunits I've ever had, they NEVER give you color coding.

If you have issues with reception, 99% of the time, this is the problem, hooking up the power antenna wire, gurantee you. Search through the forums for all the threads about it, 99% of the time, that fixes the reception issue they were having. True, the fact that the antenna is in the back window contributes majorly to reception issues, and tinting makes it worse. But, most aftermarket reception problem comes from not hooking up the power antenna.

Hey, that's my lively hood you are talking about. If it wasn't for those clueless people that actually need me to install there stereos and amps, I would be out of a job.

So like I said where dose the solid blue wire on the after market wiring harness go. the blue wire marked power antenna. Does it get hooked up the remote lead on the aftermarket deck cause it is BLUE with a WHITE stripe. Then does that get hooked up to the remote lead from the amp???
