New Civ Owner Q's
New Civ Owner Q's
Ok I have a few Q's about audio..
I have pioneer 3-way's in the back and a JVC deck and everything else stock. Im going to be installing an alpine 4 channel to power the speakers and buying some alpine type-r's for the front, should I sell my pioneers in the back and get matching speakers?
Im going to be running this system plus another amp and a 12" at some point, do i need a capacitor?

stick with the pioneers you barely going to hear the rears anyway
you may only need a capacitor if you light start dimming like crazy so wait til after you get the second amp installed and see how everything is working

For matching speakers, its not that big of of deal as long as the wattage is atleast close and you shouldn't have too many problems unless you have the money.
With the capacitor, I have 2 12s and my lights were dimming a lil so I bought a 1.2 farad and they still dim a lil but I'm only running a 600watt amp.
I'll let the stereo junky's do more of the talking cause they know a lot more than I do.

Your rear speakers actually are pretty important as they are the only buffer that keep you from hearing nothing but bass coming from behind you. to me, investing in a quality set of matching speakers for the entire car is important, especially if you want great sound. If you dont care all that much its not like you have to do it all at once anyways. If your not satisfied with your pioneers than you can always swap them out later.
And a cap is a good idea if your running two amps, always.

Don't you think some folks here start immediately screwing with settings on their radio that may affect where the bass DOES come from?
regardless of what "should" be happening?

In a perfect world we wouldnt even be able to tell exactly where the sound is coming from, it would sorround us from every angle. Thats what the goal is in a car (for myself and most others) though alot of it is listening preference. Hence why the balance and fader tools are even at the consumers disposal

everyone tells me I am crazy to spend over $1000 on a head unit, over $1000 on subs, and only $150 on front speakers. Then I play them some music, and they tell me the speakers sound like a $600 set. $150 Eclipse coaxials blow them away.

nice. You are going to love playing with that stuff all the time. Just make sure you get to hear them in a car after someone gets them, that is if you have never heard them before. you will love em. They are basically in the middle of the market in speakers, with sony and them below and JL Infinity and Boston above, sitting exactly at the point where you get the most quality for your money.
I know alot of people get these $300, $400, or more component sets and do expensive installs, but I just run a 6.5" coaxial set up front (oem rears) and it sounds better than almost any setup ive heard so far.
Its amazing how far a high quality Clarion HU (DVD lol) and Eclipse speakers will go on 18watts rms.

the ENTIRE high end home audio market
the ENTIRE high end car audio market
EVERY audio producer
EVERY live sound engineer
anyone with a clue about audio
granted, it is a thing for preference, BUT
automakers sell you a car with 18 speakers to compensate for the lack of quality in their sound
a HUGE part of the scoring in automotive sound quality competitions is precisely the fact that sound is coming from FAR in front of you... the farther the better.
IN FACT:
the majority of sound quality competitors in cars have NO rear speakers
audio engineers produce cd's so as one can differentiate where each performer in the soundstage is.
now you may decide to pull the whole "surround sound" argument. but even with dvd-audio cd's, the signal coming from the front and rear speakers is not the same. you can differentiate it and pinpoint its location
but again, it is a thing of preference, but just so you know, it isnt the intended purpose

and i didnt know there was a cap to amp ratio...
i was under the impression that a capacitor wasn't a means to feed a starving electrical system, but simply to supplement a healthy one.
but who am I to question you... you work at circuit city...
last time i was at a circuit city and had a conversation with a salesman, the manager tried hiring me to run the department...

surround sound's biggest advantage is in gaming hands down. otherwise its just nice to fill in the sound around you

theres always gonna be someone out there who knows more than you about something. For instance, most of us could go to a honda dealer and walk all over a salesman with information on the car that he sells. Its not possible with every car to make it to where you cant tell there are subs in the back. And as far as a cap goes, i have never seen two mid sized amps installed in a car without a cap that havent caused lights to dim severely. And i didnt say a damn thing about home audio.....
