this is the right thread. if you want 1 ten then get an audio ban or a pioneer. it all depends on how much you want to spend. but id definitly go with some audio ban

it's all personal preference... noone else can tell you what you're going to like... what kind of music do you listen to?... what is your budget?... there are a million factors in picking out a sub... hit Crutchfield.com or SoundDomain.com and check out the specs and prices and make your own conclusions... this forum is much better for giving opinions on gear you have already decided on rather than helping you build a system from scratch... hope this helps... good luck, and welcome to 7thgen

case in point: i would never run a Pioneer or Audiobahn sub...

no offense to MajinB, but like i said, we all have our personal preference... i'm a Kicker guy, and the only other subs i would ever run would be JL Audio W7s...

everything in my car is 'glassed... door panels, rear deck, center console, entire trunk... yes, fiberglass is cool... yes, fiberglass is expensive... i'd say if you're not going full custom, stick with a good ol' sealed prefab box

yeah, unless you're an experienced box builder (or plan on having a shop make you a custom box) and are planning on competing, i'd recommend sealed like i said above...

im with ausafcushman, i WAS an audiobahn lover till i heard kickers solobaric lineup.

for a single 10" and looking for a "lil bass"...might as well go all out sound quality. im sure their are SQL subs, but you'll end up paying more. if this is your first sub, you'll like it either way and get juiced about it.

my personal preference, if i were aiming toward an SQ 10" sub, i would go with an alpine type-r or an infinity kappa in a sealed box for that "tight" bass. definately a good sub for starters and will do the job.

ported doesnt distort more. as mentioned, its how the box is built...matter of fact, ported can have better overall quality than a sealed if built right. if its those ebay prefabbed ported boxes, no doubt.

That's what I was going to say: take a look at the Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 and a small (.65 sq ft) sealed box.

I think if you look around you can find the sub for around $85, and maybe $20-$45 for the box. Probably want to run about 300w RMS to it.

Alpine type R 10'' under 200 dollars and will hit hard and clean in a sealed box. You cant really argue against anything but their glide touch.

Type-S 10" would be cheaper and might do better with rap..I've always heard the S is for Rap and the R is for rock. Personally I love my 2 12s for rap or anything since they were 160 for the pair.

Too many options to choose from, try and see if you can get your amp all wired up in the car then test different ones to see what suits you best. I wouldnt buy any without hearing them first, no matter how many recomendations you get.

No this is wrong. The Type "S" is for the guy who cant afford the type "R". The type "R" is for those who cant afford the type "X". I have sold so many type "R"'s and type "S"'s. No customer who would need to ask "what sub should i get' has ever said "I want more" after hearing their new type "R"s. However bumping up from type "S" to type "R" or boston "G2" was very common.

Exclamation

so a 10 in a sealed box, I really don't want a lot of weight and most boxes are heavy as hell...also what can I do to keep the tag and trunk from rattling and making it sound like ****? I just want a nice bump not much just enough for people to look and give props on how tight the sound is....I listen to rock, rap, jazz, blues, classical, everything except country...I find myself looking for a bridge when I hear country lol....

a box for a 10" should only weigh like 10 pounds dude... it's MDF, not concrete...

as far as the rattling is concerned... you shouldn't have many issues with a single 10"... for the tag rattling, just get some foam weather stripping and put it behind the tag... and for the trunk, the easiest and quickest thing to do is lower your latch... pop off the plastic trim around the latch (on the actual trunk part, not the lid) and use a 10mm socket to loosen the bolt on each side... the latch will drop down about 1/4"... then just tighten the bolts back up... this will pull your trunk a little tighter and stop most of the vibrations... if that doesn't work, a single sheet of Dynamat on the trunk lid will pretty much take care of any of the AUDIBLE rattles... like this:

i doubt you will need to worry about rattling and vibrations with a single 10" in a sealed enclosure thats more likely to be fed 200-300rms or so (just an random number judging from your "lil bass" needs).

check out the DIYs in the audio section on this site.

a single 10" sub in a sealed box would weigh probably 50lb or fewer/more. i know the newer 05 alpine type-r subs are beefy though

I think I'm going to go do this tomarrow when I wake up. Does this affect the way the trunk lines up at all?

if you look at it very very closely, you may notice some areas where the seams are not flush... it's up to you if you want to have a barely-visible body line that's less than 1/4" off or a shitload of vibrations

before you loosen the bolts, take a pencil and trace along the top of the latch... then if you don't like the results, you know exactly where to slide the latch back up to
