Ideas for cheap SQ?
Ideas for cheap SQ?
I'm trying to complete a system for cheap. Right now I have sony cdx-f7715x cd player ($215 new)and a kicker kx550.3 3 channel amp. ($150 Ebay). I want to get a single 10" sub DVC 4 ohms. I'm looking for sq. I'm looking to spend less than $100. I have been thinking that something along the lines of a cheap pioneer. Also components around $150. I'm bacically looking for cheap sq. I appreciate your recommendations.
check out car audio forums for used gear. its your best bet.
im not really into components or SQ, but im sure you can pickup something for 150 and for 100 u can pickup a decent sq sub easily

The sony is not going. I have had mid level alpines that have been crap. ****ing motorized face. The sony is actually a great head unit. I'm not a newb at all, i have had many cd players and the sony is my favorite. It has really clear sound due to burr-brown digital to analog converters, 3 sets of 4 volt preouts, an aux input for my mp3 player and it was only $215 shipped to my door from sound domain. I don't think you can find a better deal that is new with a warranty. And its cheap which is what i am trying to do.
I already have the hu and amp. I want a cheap sub and i even have a pair of ppi 6.5" coaxial speakers. I just want to know anyones experience with some cheao sq stuff. It doesnt have to be fancy.

6.5" components for front stage:
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=14401 *i listened to these at bestbuy on their stage wall getting 40watts...it sounded real nice and got louder than the alpine type-r 6.5" components AND the kenwood something*
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=15348 *never heard these, but from my research on car forums and sites, it seems like infinity is one of the mainstream brands to go with for SQ and "cheap"*
10" sub:
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=14952 *its a little more, but can pack a big punch with the right power. i heard the 12" older model, can only imagine how better the new models will sound*

For $150 I PROMISE you will not do any better than CDT CL-61s. If you can still find them for $149 - www.TheZeb.com use to have em fro that, i can't check if they still do cuz the site won't come up. Try it though.

^ the man speaks the truth! i have those and they sound great! you can turn them up really loud and they still have a really clear sound
for cheap SQ, i'd say go for infinity kappas or alpine type r's from ebay....
i know there are better speakers out there but i find the kappas and type r's to be cheapest because they're so mainstream....
i've listened to rockford fosgate speakers and i thought they sounded like trash...

Thanks for the help so far guys. Does anybody else have some more ideas for the sub? The cheaper the better. I have some old coax I think i will use first to see if they are worth a crap before i get components.

The best thing you can do for your SQ is to install sound deadener. Before upgrading your speakers for SQ, seriously consider deadening your car. At least deaden your doors and everything from the rear deck back into the trunk. It'll make a world of difference in SQ. You won't get panel rattle, etc.
From there, you have lots of options. The CDT's mentioned above are a great entry level priced setup that performs well for SQ. Another option for the 6.5 part of the components would be the Adire Koda 6 midwoofer. They're cheap at about 80 a set, but perform phenominally. JL audio VR series coax are also an option that provide you a near full range setup at a budget friendly price. You can argue for infinity. To me, the highs are too harsh and the mids don't go low enough. Some love them. I can't advocate them for sq if you're going wooferless, especially the reference series that are budget friendly. Memphis makes a decent entry level setup but I can't recall the model number at the moment. Boston Acoustics also has a good entry level priced setup that's good on SQ. MB Quart and Focal, if you can find theirs at an affordable price, both have good entry level priced offerings. Personally, I'd prefer the Adire Kodas paired up with a set of Image Dynamics NX30 tweets. That's my best bang for your budget buck setup I can think of. The JL's would be my second choice for their range. CDT's being the other part of my top 3. I don't like the tweet as much on them, but they're sufficient for the budget minded. They perform rather well but I don't particularly love the tweet. All of the ones I listed perform rather well off axis, which I'll assume your setup will be doing since you don't seem to know how to properly image speakers, rather aim them at a location. Imaging is a tricky process and isn't really for teh beginner or faint at heart. That's why I like speakers that perform well off axis. They give you more leeway in your setup.

2. http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...ID=21&sort=low Has CDT CL-61As for $149.00
3. CDT makes a couple subs too THey have a 12" available also at woofersetc that I have ALWAYS wanted to hear. It really intrigues me at $99...
4. POP, WHATUP??? How have you been bro? Still rollin the SCion?

Mid-level alpine head units don't have motorized faces like you said - they might have in the past, and if they did I can see why you'd be turned off to them now, those motorized faces only seem cool for the first 15 minutes. However don't give up on good 'ole alpine! I'm with gearbox on this 'un.

I decided against the Scion after driving a friend's modified tC, and then test driving a stock tC. I wasn't as impressed after getting in it and driving it around for a day. I actually put some money down on one, then later went back and withdrew it. I just didn't like them as much. I also learned about the new Si about the same time and decided to wait a little bit to see what was up with it and how r&d was coming along. I, instead, bought a single cab Ranger that I paid for cash. It's lowered 2.5 inches, and is on mustang rims. I'll keep it for a beater to drive back and forth, but I am now anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Si's at the local dealer to test drive. If I'm not satisfied with it, or the new drive by wire system (which I've heard is kind of laggy) I'll not get one of those and instead get one of the new EX sedans. I'm about to have a family from the looks of it, as the gf and I are now talking marriage. She also has a 4 year old, so I just don't know how suitable a coupe will be for me. I kind of wish I'd kept the 01, but oh well, you live and learn. I still have access to it though, as the gf's sister bought it. If she decides to get rid of it, I'm thinking about purchasing it back from her, but who knows? I really love the new Si's though. Especially after seeing one in person at the little shindig they had in Atlanta that I went to. It's a beautiful car in person, but I want to drive one before making up my mind fully.
