Keyless entry question.

I dont have keyless entry on my lx, but it's always bothered me a little. How hard would it be to get this option? I have power door locks. Someone told me this is an added feature on most car alarms (I've never had one), so do I need to get an alarm installed, or is there an easier set up? I searched some, and didn't really find anything, but I know some super-smart-about-civics people could help me here. Thanks

darklegacy540 is on a distinguished road
You can get an aftermarket system keyless entry system installed for anywhere around $150-$250.. depending on how many bells and whistles you want.. but you're better off getting a car alarm/remote start/keyless entry.. you can pick one of those up for around $300-$800 installed.. again depending on how many options, 1 or 2 way, etc etc..

I bought a cheap alarm ($50), just for the keyless entry. Installed it myself. It wasn't easy, but not hard either. Got all my wiring help online. The alarm didn't have alot of wires.

I have an alarm, i think i paid somewhere around the 250 to 300 range for it, its a clifford alarm, its not on my civic but its on my other car which didn't have a keyless entry but did have power locks. It has remote start on it as well. Can't go wrong with it, you get your keyless with added security.

For 120 bucks you can get the keyless entry that the factory intended.

You could spend $120 for it or $200 on an alarm/keyless entry. Not to say jb1004 is wrong, you could get that but the factory alarm isn't that great of an alarm. Its up to you though.

Hey I found a keyless entry kit at pep boys for 40 bucks, and with the wire color chart in the diy section, it was a relatively easy hook up. Took less than an hour including clean up time. Im pretty damn handy, though. I would have done this a long time ago if I knew I could do it without too much trouble. I got all of you beat on price, too...lol and amazingly enough, it works. Thanks again.

Tony, what was the name of the kit? I'm in the same predicament as you; I have a LX with power locks and no remote opener. Thanks!

The kit is made by bulldog and came with two transmitters... just said "remote keyless entry" on it...I found it in the section of pep boys that had all of their amp wiring kits and such. Finding the correct wires under the kick panel is the hardest part, that and then making the splices. Also, you need a power source, so I used the 12v constant from my stereo wiring harness. Then I just screwed the little box to the kick panel itself. Let me know if you need other help.
