oh. the headunit part. i just pulled from inside the dash. it's hard to explain, but you know the two screws you take out from the bottom? well, further in the dash there is an absolute end to the metal that holds the headunit in place. just pull on that real hard and the thing should pop out. if that doesn't work, then it'll probably break...so don't listen to what i say
so you didnt pry from these points only?

the only thing i can figure to use is a screwdriver to lift the edges up a bit, but pulling to hard in one point impresses the dash in and it looks pretty ****ed up.
where 'inside the dash' did you pull from?

when you take the screw out from the botom try takeing out your guage bezel and dropping the glove box and get your hands in there and push from behind, and all the metal and crap that holds the head unit in place.

yep, gotta use a socket the first time you undo it. Use a screwdriver next time though incase you need to get in there again. Wrap a flat head screwdriver with some tape and *gently* pry around the center console, and it will come loose. IF you brute force it you'll probably loose several of the clips that help hold it in.

Mine don't even have phillips or hex, or flat slots in them for a screw driver. Make your job easier and use a socket.
As for the DIY, the one that's linked (to my knowledge written by Megahurtz) is for an 04+
There is also one on here for an 01 located here
don't know if it's any different, but anyway)

when you do get it all off, I'd recommend you run the wires from around back of the console. you can always tuck the wires up behind your center console. out of sight, out of mind. But if you drill that hole, you have to live with that hole. forever. Or pay for a new panel, and why have needless expenses?
I say save your self the drill time and just drop the wires down from around the back of the dash (when you finally do get the radio out)

i took out my center console the other day .. yeh its basically those 2 screws which is a 10mm size .. then after u take those out .. rite above the metal where the 2 screws were.. u can feel the console .. push that part and u shud notice that the bottom of the console tends to move a lil bit .. if u push hard enuff.. it will push the bottom of the console enuff to get a flathead under .. on the pic where the arrows are .. there are tabs.. i just slowly eased my flat head along the whole console.. u'll notice the clips beginning to pop out.. once u pop all of them off.. then done.. it shud just come straight out .. be careful with the flat head tho .. wrap it with somethin if u have to so it won't fucc up ur **** .. i did it in like 5 min
