tweeters
My buddy wants me to install his new HU. I installed alot of sound systems, but never with tweeters. I was wondering where you hook it up? Do you have to run the front out RCA's from the HU to a 4 chanel amp, then hook up your 2 front speakers to 2 chanels then your 2 tweeters to the 2 other chanels? also I ordered my 2005 reverb and it comes with tweeters, and i want to change my HU so where will i have to hook up the tweeters?
Thanks
Thanks
Also, in regards to wiring, you need to get a crossover. most component systems come with them. you run the speaker wires into it, and it separates the high and low freq's, then has outputs for the tweeter and the woofer.

but I don't think my buddy had a crossover. the tweeters were hooked up on his old deck, but it got stolen, now he wants me to install his new one this friday. I think he had it on a 4 chanel amp, i'm not sure because I never saw his system that much, but he said he had his sub and speakers in the amp. could it be that he had the tweeters on 2 chanels and that he bridged the other 2 chanels together for the sub?
See, the problem is, the tweeters can only handle frequencies above, lets say, 3k hz. now, if you connect them just to the amp, they'll get all that bass and mid-range that they don't want, and blow. you gotta make sure that however you have it set up, you can set a high pass filter (HPF) on the tweeters so that way they only get the high noises, and you wanna do a Low-pass filter on the woofers, so that way they don't get the highs.

so how are the tweeters in the reverb set-up? is there a crossover somwhere or does the stock HU send out 2 additional chanels with only the high frequencies + the 4 chanels for the door chanels? I'm getting my reverb in 3 weeks and want to put in a aftermarket HU

Tell ya what....I've been looking for a reason to break out the soldering iron lately. Find the specs for the frequency ranges, I'll build custom crossovers for them, and I'll sell 'em to ya for cost....this way it's tuned for you, you get them cheap, I get to play, and I'm not losing money. How's that sound?

sorry, but I only want to know how the tweeters in the reverb are hooked up. I'm curious to know what sends out the high frequencies to the tweeters in the reverb (the HU or a crossover). Thanks Anyways! Maybe when I get my car in 3 weeks, i'll let you know again.

If I had to guess, I'd say probably a built-in crossover in the HU. Not really sure, but that's how they were hooked up in my friend's Jetta, it had stock tweeters in the doors, and he had to leave them unhooked because he didn't have an external crossover.

on my 02 sedan, I ran the four speakers off a separate amp. Then bought new tweeters with built-in crossover and wired them to the pioneer deck power. More than enough power to hear them.

Factory components? That doesn't make sense. Anyway, I know aftermarket component speakers come with a crossover, which is required or you'll blow the speakers. I have a crossover on my deck but its not really necessary. You need one with the components tho.
gearbox, i have a question regarding this info on tweeters and etc. I have all pioneer stuff, mids and highs. I have 3 ways in the front and 4 ways in the rear.
the tweeters i have are pioneer too. right now the tweeters are hooked into the front speakers, not on a crossover or on the hu but the front speaker wires. Is this ok?

The OEM tweeters have a bassblocking capacitor inline in the wiring to keep the low end frequencies from getting to them, it has nothing to do with the HU, and the wires are isolated so the wiring harness behind the HU does not have any extra wires for the tweeters.

i have a feeling the tweeters have a separate crossover or they would be ruined by now. Its like a small box or something attached to the wires. The regular speakers don't really need a crossover; I have mine set to 50Hz so it plays a little bass. It won't blow them or anything. But if you have a sub, then set it higher maybe around 80Hz.
The tweeters have a little box thingy on it, i guess it is the crossovers!
i had this tweeters with this setup in a different car for about 2 years and now in this car for about two years!
I just ordered some SPS-171A for $100! Gearbox where are your tweeters located?

its inside the door panel between the outside plastic and metal. So if you take the door panel off, you can see the bundle of wires and the x-over.
