Disabling Alarm

Hi,
Last summer I had a viper alarm installed in my 2001 lx, and it works great. One really irritating thing, however, is that when I go to reconnect my battery, the alarm goes off until I hit the kill switch. Now I understand the reasoning behind this, but there's got to be some way around it, because I assume that when you take your car to the shop, they're not setting off the alarm everytime they need to disconnect the battery.

I just moved, so I have no idea where my manual is, and I doubt it would be useful anyway. Anyway, help would be appreciated.

PS, I'm not looking to disable override the ignition-disable or anything sketchy. I just want to remain on friendly terms with my new neighbors.

Set the alarm to Valet Mode. Turn key to ON position but do not start the car. Then turn the key to the OFF position. Then within 10 seconds find the Valet/Program button and hold it down for more than 3 Seconds. The Alarm will chirp and the LED light will stay lit up. VOILA! Valet Mode!

Does valet mode work after the battery has been disconnected? What about the fuse coming from the battery to the alarm? If I pull that and reconnect the battery, will the horn sound? Will the car start (I assume not)?

If you pull the fuse that goes to the battery, it will still go off once you reconnect the fuse. But if you switch it into Valet Mode it will still remain in Valet Mode if you disconnect the battery and reconnect it.
