Mounting on back of the seats?

Hi,

I need to mount something on the back of the rear seats in the trunk. But the problem is the seats don't seem solid. Like there's nothing to screw into, just fabric. Anybody got any ideas?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

I think most people unzip the rear seats and wedge wood rails in between the metal rods or brackets to mount their amps. Hope that helps.

I would have never thought of opening up the seats. Thanks!

Unzip the seat. The bottom of the carpet kinda pull apart from the top after unzipping. The bottom pulls toward the cabin and it unhooks. Once open, measure the inner seat area and cut a piece of 1/2" MDF. Pay attention to the limitations of the curvy trunk walls when you are placing the amp. What might fight when the seat is down, might hit when you fold it back up. Anyway, screw the top part of the wood into the metal frame of the inner seat. Then, drilling two holes, one on top of the other around the bottom reinforcement bar of the inner seat, wire tie the bottom of the board to the seat frame on the right and left. BING BANG BOOM you've got a solid seat.

Juzt stick some wood behind there.. Between the fabric n the weight of the amp against the wood, it won't move

That is bad advice. That's being mickey mouse when you don't have to be. Just install the wood and do a professional job. You'll feel about it.

It's bad practice not to secure things. True, you can cut a piece to size of the back of the carpet, but not only will it olok like crap, when your carpet stretches and the board starts sagging, then when it's flopping back and forth when you're pressing the brake, loosening the screws in the board and eventually your amp flies off of it and the wires snap, ground out and start a small electrical fire in your trunk, don't blame me...

And for mounting it on the back of the box... yeah, lets give theives a christmas present and make it a package ****** and grab. True, not damage will be done to teh amp, but why make it easy for theives.

That said:
1. Fold Down 60% seat (of 60/40 split)
2. Unzip seat, and remove J channel plastic piece.
3. Make a cardboard template to size
4. Transfer cardboard template onto a sheet of 1/2 or 3/4 inch MDF.
5. Secure top by screwing into 1.5" metal "plate" at the top. Drill holes along edge and zip tie the remaining part to the metal rails.
6. Zip seat back up and reinstall J channel
7. Mount amp to seat back.
