Looking for sub upgrade advice.

I’m looking to upgrade and need some ideas and opinions on things. My focus is on SQ. I have all this in a Ford Ranger Supercab.

Currently I have:
* Pioneer 7400MP
* JL XR 5x7 Components
* Alpine T220 (90x2)
* Two JL 8w3 subs sealed
* Alpine M350 (700x1)

Honestly I think it sounds great now, I’m just looking for more bass. Before the 8” subs, I had a single 12” Eclipse Aluminum in there but it was too much. Sounded way too boomy. The 8’s are great. Not too boomy and they are really punchy.

I don’t want to change the amp, it is one of the few that can fit under the seat. I simply want to change the subs. So I need something that works w/ 700 watts max @ 2 ohms.

I was pondering a pair of 10w3 or a single 10w6. Can anyone give me some feedback on how these two would compare against one another? The local shop isn’t helpful at all.

How about RE8’s. How do they compare. I’d could get 4 of those for about $160 w/ the group buy they have coming up.

Any other suggestions.

Thanks guys …..

If you've got 6ohm or 4ohm 8W3s, why not just add two more and have 3ohm or 2ohm.

You're not going to want the W6 if you want to keep your amplifier. I'd recommend the 10W1. It's a new sub, pretty close to the W3.. Pretty much, the only difference is that the W1 handles a little less power. Check it out on JLs website. It'll probably perfect for what you want. Does your head unit have sub control? Because if it does and it is too "boomy" for you, you could always keep your levels down.

The 8w3's are DVC 2 ohm .... so it ends up a perfect 2 ohm load. I'd love to try for 4 of them, but I'd have to get another amp too.

From what I saw the 10w6 is 400rms .... my amp is 350 rms....so it seemed like a good match. If I got a pair or 10w3's, they would be underpowered. So one 10w6 w/ a full 700 watts .... or a pair of 10w3's w/ 350 total to each.

The HU does have sub controls. I have the sub output crossed over at 50Hz at 0db. The next step on the crossover is 80Hz which is too high. I prefer to set the sub level via the gain on the amp.

Or you could sell the 2 8W3 DVC2s and get 4 8W3 DVC6s for a 3ohm load to your one amp. It would still be alittle underpowered, but the best way to make sure your bass isnt' too boomy is to set the size of the subs right in the first place. I lOVE 8s in interior cabs. Oh and I believe the 10W6 is 300 watts. THe 10W6V2 is 400. But the 1st version only came in DVC6
