Metra 7897 Kit and Alpine 9831 in '01 Civic/EL
Hello I have an '01 Acura 1.7 el premium (exactly same dash as a civic 2001). I recently bought the metra mounting kit (7897). Now it looks like my alpine 9831 will not fit through the front panel of the kit. Anyone else have this problem? Do I have to remove the titanium trim around the alpine HU inorder for it to work? Has anyone else installed an alpine using this kit? Thanks.

Yes you do have to remove the trim around the head unit - there is a piece on the metra kit that covers the gap nicely. Holla at me if you need help (if you're local to Mississauga I can even help you out in person).

no it still can screw into the frame and be secure it just doesnt have the trim piece which at first i thought it wasnt that nice , but now i dont think it looks that bad, just wish i couldget something custom done, or not have the radio sit so far back
No....i installed another metra kit (the one that also replaces the bottom part with the door). I didn't want to do it...but this one allows you to keep the head unit trim and it sits flush with the front panel. I just wish the bottom part on the metra kit had a door too. But doesn't look that bad.
