Metra 7897 Kit and Alpine 9831 in '01 Civic/EL

Hello I have an '01 Acura 1.7 el premium (exactly same dash as a civic 2001). I recently bought the metra mounting kit (7897). Now it looks like my alpine 9831 will not fit through the front panel of the kit. Anyone else have this problem? Do I have to remove the titanium trim around the alpine HU inorder for it to work? Has anyone else installed an alpine using this kit? Thanks.

Yes you do have to remove the trim around the head unit - there is a piece on the metra kit that covers the gap nicely. Holla at me if you need help (if you're local to Mississauga I can even help you out in person).

So you didn't connect the back piece? Is it secure in the dash? Did you get the front piece on?

Finally got my alpine 9831 installed. I'm very happy with it, plays all my cds with no problem. Excellent sound. Thanks for all the help. Now my next step is to upgrade my speakers!

No....i installed another metra kit (the one that also replaces the bottom part with the door). I didn't want to do it...but this one allows you to keep the head unit trim and it sits flush with the front panel. I just wish the bottom part on the metra kit had a door too. But doesn't look that bad.
