front speakers/rear deck
ive hit a snag in installing the rear speakers in my 2004 coupe. i cant seem to figure out how to get the rear deck off. i saw the diy for sedan rear decks, but still cant get it. Any tips? any help is MUCH appreciated.
also, the holes in the doors to mount the front speakers are shaped funny. the diy said something about a plastic adapter that came with the speakers. im not sure if i got one w/ my eclipse speakers (co-ax 6.5" se8363). if i did, i dont have the anymore. can i jsut mount the speakers straight on to the car door? thanks a lot in advance. everyone on these forums are very helpful.

mounting straight to the door should work, but i bet the speaker will be too deep and will interfere with the window.
Another common way, in addition to above, is to cut out circular rings out of MDF to use as spacers.

if you just cut the door most aftermarkey speakers will mount about an inch too deep and yer window will not be able to go down all the way..

true they are almost the same size.. but the stock ones (left) have a 1" spacer.. (well.. the spacer IS the speaker... but whatever)

You can buy the plastic spacers if you'd like, but buying a sheet of MDF (1.4 to 1 inch, depending on how much depth you need) and cutting your own will save you a lot of money, plus it'll work better as well. For more info on what all that does, search for the thread about baffles, and read through it, cause one, I'm too lazy to find it and link it, and 2 I'm too lazy to type it all out. Just cut them out, silicone and screw them to the doors. That ensures that they're easily removable as well.
Well I just finished the front speakers today, and it is a damn good feeling to have that crap in. I actually used the factory speaker mount thing and did the same thing that againifall did. I cut out the factory speakers and put mine in. However, I had to shave down the plastic on the factory speaker so my eclipse speakers would fit on top. Fits pretty nicely. I tied the speakers down using some heavy duty wire. Doesn't budge at all. Now if only I could get those 6x9s in...
