OPEN BOX Buy
okay everyone i bought a rockford capacitor for my car which was an open box buy.. so now i have it connected to my system.. i know i have to charge it but how... can i just let the car run for a good 30 minutes or so on idle with nothing powered on to let it charge or is there a specif way of doing it?
cap charges in less then a min or so. If you got the cap that u have to charge then there should be this thing that comes with it that u have to do it with. It a tiny board with come chips or whatever and led on it. I am sure there is another way of doing it ,but i am not sure on that.

It should charge instantly, most people say it takes 15 minutes to charge, but it should charge instantly. Anyway, for more information on caps, browse through this post, and read some of the stuff posted (ludlam, white rabbit, etc... there are some intelligent posts in there, there are, however some uninformed posts on it as well, but the ones from at least the two people I mentioned are very accurate, and very correct.

That post was made by ludlam on the second page, I just couldn't figure out how to quote from another topic in this post, so I did the best I could.

"20 minutes to charge a cap?
a cap charges instantly.
go to your cap, and take out your multimeter, which im sure you have if youre such an audio enthusiast. and take the voltage of your cap. now go get a screwdriver and short out the terminals, it wont do anything to your cap, but itll leave nasty marke on your screwdriver. take teh voltage, it should be 0. then plug your power and ground back into the capacitor without the resistor in line, it should be a big spark, but guess what, youre back up to full voltage instantly."

grab a resistor and put it in between the cap and your power line...grab a multimeter and wait until the resistor hit 12v or more...either that or you can go back to bb and buy a brand new cap, wait a day or two and return the open box cap as the brand new cap....just a thought.
