I am seriously considering making my first sub a shiva...but before I do, I was wondering what type/size enclosure do you have and how much power are you running to it? I want some bass but also some trunk room, so was thinking sealed. Is 200W enough or should I double it and do 400?

Shivas are made by Adire, right?...the same company that makes the Brahmas?...anyway, just check Adire Audio's web site, or go to SoundDomain.com , click "Member Pages", then search for systems...one of the 3 or 4 pull-down menus is for searching by product and category...select "subwoofer" and "Adire", and then just see what everyone else has done...hope this helps...good luck!

www.adireaudio.com That's their website, they should have the specs for them there, along with simple box plans. Several members here run them with JBL power series amps with great results. The reason for the JBL is because you get cheap, but very decent clean power.

I am running a single shiva and I'm running it off of a JBL 600.1 which puts out 300w at 4ohm's. The enclosure should be 1.8cubic feet sealed. Do some simple math and find out what shape you want it to be.

The spec sheet of their site says that the max the shiva takes is 650watts, but that is when it reaches its thermal limit. DO NOT TRY TO PUSH 650 WATTS THROUGH A SHIVA. It would be bad. The max I'd recommend is 400ish watts. I'd say, though, that you'd want at least 300watts if you like your bass.

Make sure the gain on the amp matches the voltage output on your headunit, and don't turn up the bass on the equilizer (random important thought).

The shiva is a great sub. It's not the loudest, but it hits very deep and can still keep up with the double bass in any hardcore/metal I throw at it. No one who has listened to my car has commented about me having a shitty sub.

I think 1.8 is the optimum box size with SQ and decent SPL in mind. For power, about 300-350 watts.

My Shiva is powered by a PG Xenon X400.1 (400 watts) - I would also agree that any more than 400 watts would be a bit too much. This Shiva is a great first sub (it's my first car sub) - I still haven't gotten around to taking pictures of my set-up - once I do I'll post them so you can see my box and such - I have a good amount of trunk room.

1.8 cu ft sounds big. For a 12"? I have my 12" in a 1 cu ft box and it sounds awesome. I mean I know every sub has different specs but that box is 80% bigger than mine!!

What could cause two speakers of the same size to require different size boxes?

It sounds wonderful. I don't really need it to go any louder, stuff vibrates and it gets embarassing before the amp runs out of juice.

its all about the parameters of the subwoofer. and subs heavily vary on their reccomended box size. for example, an image dynamics idq 12" only requires .85 cubic feet, theres some subs that require even less. my 15 for example requires 2.5 cubic feet, a tempest can be in a sealed box up to 4 cubes... there are some that require much much more or much less as well...
