Amp Suggestions for Shiva?

I plan on getting a Shiva sub (as many may already know) but I can't decide what type of amp to get. There's so many choices?!?!? The Shiva is DVC at 8 ohms so I guess it could be run at 4 ohms. It's 650W RMS. I just need an amp that won't underpower it and will give good power at the ohm load. The amp will only be powering one Shiva. Any suggestions. Anyone have a setup with a Shiva already?

well great bang for the buck option is a JBL 180.2 makes about 400Wrms which will drive the sub extremely well without risking damaging the spider and you'll be a happy camper

650 watt shiva rating is strictly thermal, i wouldnt give the shiva more than 400 watts rms, and itll still bang out some impressive output

Yeah - I read that you don't have to give it that amoutn of power and it would be fine with around 400W - just wanted to make sure. Any suggestions in that case?

Well - I would like to spend as little as possible. I really wanted to spend around $250 but I tihnk I may have to spend a bit more. I guess I would go up to maybe $400 but that's pushing it a bit. Somewhere in the $250-$350 range would be reasonable.

I'm currently running one shiva off a kenwood two channel amp. The shiva is bridged on the amp giving it 460watts RMS, which is to much for the shiva to handle.

A friend of mine has the exact same amp as me, but he's running two shivas both bridged. The amp gives just a little to much power for the two shiva's to handle, but sounds increadably nice.

We're both using the same size encloseres (1.2CF sealed box).

for 400 you cn get a damn nice amp for the shiva
other quiestions, do you think youll ever get the itch to add a second woofer?
if so, it would be smart to get a 2 ohm stable amp so you could just wire up the second shiva

As of now I don't plan on adding another sub. I'm not to sure if I want to subs. I think one will be loud enough for me. I just need a good amp to power the one since I don't have any plans of adding another woofer.

I have a couple of Shivas that I would sell for $25 each if you live in SoCal...I don't really want to ship them anywhere though.

I live in NJ - It seems like a bit of a distance then. You would absolutely have to ship them so I guess that takes away the point. Good price though - if you change your mind on the shipping then I'll consider it. Thanks for the offer

$25? ****, they are sold, ill take a pair!

1.8 sealed is my personal favorite box for a shiva (minus 3.5 ported to 22 inside the house)

$400 is a crapload of money to spend on yoru bass amp! for that money you might even be able to get an audison LRX 2.250 RETAIL (it probbaly retails for $450) so if you could find one online.....

I couldnt find an SRX series amp that put out less than 600 rms or more than 170 rms, but you can get a four channel, itd cost more than $400, but youd have your front amp as well!

or you could get the 170 watt amp (plenty of power for basic thump, this amp outhit the PG titanium flagship 100x2 amp that retails for $500) for $250 retail.
or you could get the 600 watt amp (LOTS of power!) no idea on retail, but it would be more power than I would know what to do with for a shiva!

Are you gonna go to the Moreno Valley event? ...I can bring them to the event if you really want them...2 things you should know about them:

1) the speaker wires are soldered on, and i am not the neatest solderer.

2) These were the Shivas that I had tinsel slap problems with, but a couple of bandaids takes care of that.

...which is why I will sell them for $25. I'll even through in the adire magnet boot covers

I live over an hour to the northwest of Irvine, and I work until 5...and not home until 6:15pm...otherwise I should be home...and I will prolly be starting to get my car together for the comp.

...if you are going to the comp in a few weeks i can always take them up with me...I just don't want to have them sitting in my car while the event is goin on

Here is a pic from when i pulled them out of the box (they are no longer stuck together though )...

even though they have been sitting around for awhile I know they still are in good working condition because we played them in VNlilman's car this past weekend.

I've been looking for some amps - what does everyone think of the Infinity Reference 610a 465W amp?
