polyfill

I've never, in 10 yrs, worked with polyfill. Now, i've seen articles about how much to put in boxes(1lb/cubic foot) but thats about all i know. I'm not going to be using any, never have. I'm just curious.

1.) How do you install it? with spray adhesive?

2.) Does installing polyfill change tuning frequency for ported enclosures?

3.) It does go on the inside of the box right

you can buy it at any "rag" shop. it supposedly adds volume to the box and will probably change the tuning frequency.
wish i could view the link that J187 posted but its blocked by websense here at work...

yea, the amount to put in is the only part i know. but does it effect tuning? and how should it be put in the box as far as how to make it stay in place.

just stuff it in. i'm sure you'll have to somehow make sure it doesn't get caught up in the voicecoils..

It may make the box seem bigger but as far as changing the tuning goes, it will probably change the tuning becuase the box is actually SMALLER because of the displacment of the polyfill... I couldn't see some cheap material making the box SEEM bigger actually changing the tuning becuase the formula doesn't change.

You could probably adhesive it to your box if you wanted, but personally I just stuff it in, doesn't matter. 1lb is a lot, I just put it in as I see fit, maybe fill it 1/3 or so up

Thats what i was thinking also. as far as not really changing the tuning frequency and it did also seem quite a bit of polyfill. 5lbs for a 5 cubic foot box would be like a trash bag full of polyfill.

I would think even more... polyfill is super light stuff, 1lb especially when fluffed out seems like an exorbatant amount to me

You don't want to glue it all down though, it is the moving of fibers that makes the heat dissipate and create the illusion of a larger box.
