Fan, not exactly. YOu shouldn't be using an EQ to fix anything, only to fine-tune things that just aren't quite there. In another words, your system sounds good already, just not quite how you want it exactly. Remember, the less powered devices like eqs and processors that you have, the lower your noise floor will be. High noise floor is bad, mmmmkay? So My advice is if you're having trouble with your system, fix it the right way, by tuning, changing the install or swapping some pieces out. What exactly is giong on with your sound why you feel you need an eq.
Well, I'd say you are using an EQ to fix things, though I also agree with J187 that it is a fine-tuning kind of fixing, not a cure for bad speakers or bad imaging or whatever.
The point of an EQ is to flatten out the sound, to fix any minor problems with your speakers or environment (i.e. car) that cause you to lose or boost some frequencies.
