Test tones

Can test tones be played by tweeters at moderate volumes...or is this a bad idea?

Good question. I'd like to know the answer to this as well. I would assume if the tweeter was made to play that frequency it shouldn't be a problem.

I don't want to go any higher then 6400hrtz in frequency...but I want to test my systems frequency response.

I have done it from 20Hrtz-200hrtz, but never above. I mainly want to check the midrange.

That's fine. Your tweeters should have either a passive or an active cross over to them so you can't damage them. At IASCA competitions (Mainly SQ competitions), they use test tone cds.

Well IASCA uses their own test tones cd. However, you can pick up a test tones cd just about at any cd store.. Sam Goody, etc. Ask an associate for the "bass cd section" Check for a cd with tones.. usually a cd with around 100 tracks or so. I know Bass Mekanik makes a couple.

They do, but these CDs typically do not have midrange frequencies...only bass.

100 Tracks? Is it like 100 different frequencies of sine waves?

I have that CD, and no it does not have any test tone above 100 hrtz

I have another Bass Mechanik CD that goes up to 200 hrtz.

BTW, it was not a good idea to play test tones at high frequencies...I almost went deaf!!

Here is a program to generate tones and store them in .wav files so you can burn them to cd. It runs on linux and windows.
