Fryed sub, looking for new options...
Well, over the weekend, I managed to fry my sub. I was playing it at the same volume that I always do, and all of a sudden, it started fluttering. Then, it started smoking. I killed the radio immediatly. Then, I pulled over and got out, and the cone is froze up. It wouldn't move. I had it for two years, and have had several things in there during that time, so it wasn't in continuous play during those 2 years. Regardless, I'm faced with the decision of what to go with now, being as I have to replace the sub. I'll more than likely get something else that can be in a smaller enclosure, as I have already been looking to do so. I can't send it back to have it replaced/repaired, as the company (Virtual Technologies) has since went out of business. Regardless, I was sick of the huge snake port enclosure it was in, and was looking for alternatives to replace it anyway. I had a single 10 sub (VT RIP Hammer Pro) and am looking to replace it with two 10?s. I already have a JL 500/1 that I am planning on reusing in my new application. I am more of an SQ guy, and I still like to be able to get a little loud if the time calls for it. Here's the options I was considering:
1. Dual JL 10W3v2 dual 4 ohm wired in series in seperate small sealed enclosures (0.625 cubes ea.)
2. Image Dynamics IDQ10v2D4
wired in series in seperate small sealed enclosures (0.55 cubic feet ea.)
What are your opinions on each in the enclosure I have described, as far as SQ and the ability to get somewhat loud are concerned. These are the two options I am considering the most as of right now. I don't want to go single 12 because of the concern to SQ. I like these 10's personally because of the ability to be put into a compact enclosure, plus they still offer the SQ aspect that I love. What are your thoughts?

Ok, today, I went to the shop I always do my business with, to inquire about pricing for the JL W3v2. They went off on some other tangent, and started recommending another woofer to me. Now, I'm not sure if they're just pushing the product or not, being as it's one of their brands they have just started carrying. They said I should look into the Memphis M3 series subs. I can get them and the JL's for the same price. But, I have never heard any of them, and their new shipment isn't due in until next week. The problem I face is that I have never heard a Memphis sub that was mindblowing or even made me consider that brand. They swear that they sound great, and will allow me to listen to them, as they do with all of the other new product, and they even told me that if I buy a pair or the 10's that, if I don't like them after installing them, they'll take them back, no restocking fee, no cost to me. Has anyone heard this line by memphis, and should I even let it slip into my thoughts?

memphis subs are okay, my local shop sells them, they dont particularly care for them. however, memphis has a sweet warranty and great customer service, i know that they offer a lifetime warranty on there low end speakers, which sound pretty darn good.
memphis makes nice SPL woofers, but i would personally go for the JL's. any reason you want the 10's instead of the 12's?
