about speaker wire guage size
not to long ago I had a question about RCA cables...now I got one about speaker wire...
I got a rockford fosgate multi-amp kit...came with a whole bunch of stuff, including the RCA's (which I've come to find out suck), and speaker wire...
the speaker wire is a 16 gauge wire....is that good enough for my mids and highs, and subs...or should I go to a lower gauge for the subs...I heard for the subs I should go for 8-14....let me know...and what should I look for when getting speaker wire??? brands, features, benifits...

Go with a lower gauge for the subs.. 12-10 should be fine
16 gauge is fine for the speakers, especially if they are running off the head unit
I use 12 gauge wire for my subs, and I run a big 1000wrms amp and I've never had a problem

Got a question about speaker wire.
Seeing as its important for the RCA wires going to the amp to be shield, wouldn't it also be important for the speaker wire which is run along side the doors to the speakers, to be sheilded as well? Its essentially (depending on your setup) running at same area of your RCA's.
Just a thought. Opinions?

don't worry about shielding speaker wire. avoid when possible, but you won't be able to notice interference in most cases. RCA's are low level (often around 2V max) while speaker wire is the amplified signal (12V or more max)
