aftermarket speakers that are cheap rarely have superior midbass performance over stock speakers. they were well designed!

and realistically, very very few 6x9's at all will have any sort of midbass performance, there are too many issues with such a large cone and small motor.

chekc out the tang band, they make a 6x9, if it performs anything like their 8", with teh foam baffle it should be awesome for midbass performance

the MTX 6x9's weren't bottom of the line cheap...they're somewhere in the middle...

they were the same price as infinity reference series but i got the MTX's because a friend won a brand new pair at a BOOM competion...

mid bass with Pioneers is awful - I had a pair of 6.5's in my Neon and was severely underwhelmed by their performance.

Stock rears are nothing less than awful as well. I have yet to find one car manufacturer that doesn't cut corners when it comes to stock audio components. Even more criminal is when it is sold as "premium" sound.

well, then they're pretty expensive for bottom of the line or you're a cocky jerkwad...

anyways, i dont think the speakers are great for bass but neither are the alpine type s or type r 6x9's...the highs from the MTX speakers were a big improvement over the stock pioneers though

today, i spent most of my time at stores listening to various speakers...so far i havent been able to find any 6x9's that are bassy...not even alpine type r's jl components, or infinity kappas...

are they all just like that or is it the way speakers are setup in stores?

IMO listening to stuff in stores doesn't mean much. Its not in a car, probably in a better box, and not on an amp. When things are on an amp they are night and day different. Problem is what other choice do we have?

I just bought a pair of the 3-way Pioneers 6x8's from Walmart for the fronts in my girlfriends Contour. Of course it was the last box and I could see it had been opened. I put them in and was really pissed. They sounded like ***. Had no volume at all and broke up really quickly. To be honest I was thinking they might be blown the way the tweets were crackling as I turned it up. Then I switched from deck power to an old Soundstream amp (60x2). What a difference. They sounded 100x better and had pretty decent bass. So so much better.

My point is some speakers are designed for an amp. Hell most aftermarket speakers are designed for an amp. A HU really isn't **** for power on them for a demo .....

Honestly looking at the way most JL speakers sound .... I'd bet money the TR 6x9's would sound really sweet on an amp if thats what your looking for. But then again w/ good 6x9s in the back on an amp, I'd imagine the soundstage is going to suffer quite a bit .....

MassMayhem is right. I have dynamat on the rear deck and they still don't sound that great--and they're amped. I have the fade more to the front and it sounds so much better. Door speakers will naturally sound better because of location, especially if you have dynamat back there.

shouldnt get upset cause lud said you bought cheap speakers. even boss equipment has a market!

would you have bought rainbow reference speakers if you could afford them? do you have $7,000 for a set of component speakers? how about $800 for the midbass upgrades?

how about $32,000 for some home theater tower speakers?

hell, even I run cheap speakers in my car! How many people here spend lots of money on their car stuff? I just bought a new four channel amplifier for a hundred and fifty bucks, how good can it be?

I run cheap equipment in my car, and im proud of it. you should be too.

if you arent, you bought the wrong stuff!

realistically (and i said exactly this in the other 6x9 thread that was started jsut before this one) there is no such thing as a good 6x9. if you want bass, try the tangband.

otherwise, id always expect a cone thats too light, and suceptible to cone flex (like i stated in my previous post). itll result in poor low frequency extension, and a bummer of a midbass response.

even cheap 6.5's can often have better low frequency extension than cheap 6x9's! its why many choose to stick a 6.5 on a baffle in the back......

interesting comment because when i was listening to JL 6.5" 2ways, i swear they had more bass than the alpine type R 6x9's....both sets were on the same wall and i was switching them up to see if i could hear any diff...

so should i convert my rears to 6.5" speakers? will it make a dif? will i be able to fit 6.5" kappas on my rear deck w/o hitting the trunk springs if i convert to 6.5"?

anyways, i'll apologize for the comment i made....i did some more searching and although he was rude here, the guy actually gave some helpful replies in a few threads that i read.

Ludlam - what was in the stock 98 system?

A friend of mine has an 02 Prius and raves about the stock performance - my understanding is that they make it sound "good" by pairing low wattage decks with low power speakers...

GM, despite their many faults, does put IMO the best base audio system in their vehicles. even stupid saturns have the tweeters angled nicely in the doors, with good midbass

I was never too thrilled about the Bose setup in my 95 Monte Carlo or my 93 Accord. Further more, anyone who has put in an aftermarket system, know that rewiring a Bose system is a pain in the a**. You can't go through the stock Bose amps. Agggghhhhh!!!!!!

it wasnt the gear, it was the imaging. the 5 1/4's in the door were imaged and angled up like kickpanels would be. nd the tweeters were aimed nicely as well... definitely impressive for a stock setup

they sell those baffles at www.partsexpress.com for around $9

has anyone actually installed them on the rear deck of the 7th gen civic? do they fit alright or do they end up folding around the trunk springs?

but i had no problem with my stock speakers with my headunit
maybe the rear speakers polarity is crossed (+ - backwards)

hmmm...i think my 7th gen ex coupe stock system wasn't bad compared to some other cars in the same class but it does really suck when compared to a friend's 99 prelude stock system

i really liked the prelude stock stereo...imaging was really good for stock...it had decent bass and treble too...
