6x9's sound like CRAP!
Ever since I put my deck in my car, I have noticed that my 6x9's (stock) in the rear deck, sound like absolute ****. They sounded alright before (either that or I didn't notice), and the front speakers sound awesome.
Is there a reason for this? Has anybody else experienced this? I just think it's wierd...

of course, how do you think I found out they sounded bad in the first place?
Right now I've got it balanced a little more to the front, but IMO that's not what I should be forced to do. I would like to find out why they sound so bad, whether it was of my fault or crappy stock speakers.

i put a new deck in my 03....they sounded GREAT afterwards....but w/ the subs in the trunk....i need an internal amp now. ..... then i put new speakers...so i couldn't tell w/ the stock ones. it might be the wiring is messed up...or...that the head unit ist oo much for the speakers. if u check..i think the stocks on mine were pioneers 22 watts max or something....=T
I need TP for my bunghole

more wattage per speaker and the stcks cannot keep up.
Get a nice 3 way, 4 way, or 5 way 6x9 set of speakers and that will help.
Go to www.crutchfield.com when you order a set speaker I think they provide wire adapter so you don't have to cut the stock speaker harness.

I already have a pair of Pioneer 3-ways that told me they would like to go in there... I have heard stuff about fitment issues with aftermarket 6x9's... any truth to this?
i checked out www.crutchfield.com and the only 6 x 9 they say fits is the rockford fossgate fr4269..... i think im gonna get the bracket and convert my rears to 6.5's
although i did order a set of pioneer TS-A1370's from ikesound lastnight. also got speaker harnesses from circuit city for 5.99. only thing i need now is the speaker bracket.......

problem is the rears are not baffled. The backwave causes distortion at medium to high volume. Try a layer of dynamat extreme covering the entire rear deck, it will improve SQ x10! The fronts are pretty well baffled given that they come factory with a mounting plate.
well, i have fosgate components in the front...kenwood 4 ways in the rear. 2 12" he's by RF in a sealed box and an 8800 sony cd/mp3 player. werd...and a kenwood amp which was madd cheap to power the subs. they aren't GREAT subs...but holy shizzzle my nizzle...lol..i get headaches going to and from work EVERY DAY!!! lol...dag cd skips sometimes too if i turn it past 30% sometimes. i switched to a single 12.....it was still loud as anything...but went back to the 12s so i can lower the bass level and turn up the volume so I can hear the words. i think my next investment will be an internal amp. just too much bass.
Sorry but crutchfield is overpriced, they are good though.
I like www.etronics.com . Great price and they are good quality, not B shelf products. They are a company based in NY, I ordered speakers and deck from them with no problems at all.

regarding baffles you can get a foamy rear baffle at crutchfield and other places too.
plus dynamat will help.

by restricting the back wave of the speaker, we cna often times increase the low frequency response the driver has.
of course, thats assuming the cone doesnt flex like a mother.....

Back wave of the sub driver? Speaking of frequency response, I really like the Illusion Audio for their remarkable ability in that area. If anyone doesn't know, they used a reversed pole method where the magnet actually sat in front of the driver. The cone was made of a Carbon Fiber weave. It allowed for both shallow mounting depth AND awesome response to due its lightweight design. I wanted a set but just bought 2 Diamond TDX 104's. Different tangent, I just wanted to share.
you should check out planet audio. they started making 6's with the motor in front too, and they have NO mount depth benefits over other speakers! its still like 2.5 inches deep!
talk about a joke of a speaker.....

Mega, the only problem u'll run into with the fit has to do with ur trunk springs, if u really wanna replace the back speakers u might wanna take off the trunk springs and do the DIY trunk shocks that way u dont have to worry about depth issues with the speakers, that's what i'm doing at least... i should have the shox in the car by the beginning of next week :-) yay anyways, good luck with all this

Very nice. I was working on my transfer to Arizona State for Computer Systems Engineering but I simply couldn't stomach the idea of sitting behind a PC all day. Oh, and the math sucked too....
for sure, i agree. id hate to make a living getting a CRT tan
in materials engineering, we break stuff all day. tons of fun.
.....we just have to explain why it broke....
and whats not to like about advanced differential equations and discrete math?

i have those installed in my 02 coupe and although the highs sound good, the bass sucks more than the stock pioneers...
has anyone tried that foam baffle thing? does it really work in our cars? does it even fit in our cars?
my MTX 6x9's barely fit in my car. one of the magnets are rubbing the trunk spring while the other one barely clears it. the MTX 6x9's have a 3-1/4" mounting depth
