6x9 audio question.
6x9 audio question.
Does anyones aftermarket 6x9's actually sound good, decent, bassy, without sub running? I have a very nice pair of boston acoustics running off my Kenwood excelon, and they sound like ****, compared to any other cars i've had foriegn or domestic, trunk sizes have varied, i,m curious as to what you guys got going on.
If you have a "nice pair of boston acoustics," why do they sound like ****? Anyways..
Hmm, when I had 6x9s in the rear, I had some kind of Rockford Fosgate that my friend got me for xmas last year.. I don't remember which model though but anyways, they sounded pretty clean but I'm sure your Bostons sound a lot better sound quality-wise just because Boston makes some pretty good speakers. No bass though. On my electronic crossovers, my high pass filters were set at 100 hz for those 6x9s though just because when I had the factory rear deck, it rattled if I had the xovers set any lower.
Anyways, now I have JL Audio XR 6.5s in both the front and back. If I adjust the xovers accordingly, I can get enough bass out of them to shake my rear view mirror a little bit but the bottom line is Just leave the bass for the subwoofers and mid/mid-lows for the 6x9s.

i think teh only 6x9 on teh market that i could see as possibly sounding "good" is teh jl xr 5x7/6x9 component set, but ive never heard it
the 5x7's have midbass issues, but you got me there, they are definitely as mellow and accurate as an XR should be. jsut nowhere near the midbass capability of the 6's.
As of 2002, JL didnt make a 6x9 in the XR series. good for them if they have one now, but ill bet it wasnt designed by the same guy who designed the rest of the XR lineup.

i used to have JBL's on my car, they sound good and sounded better when i got an amp. but there's the rattle issue.
get a box if you want to, it will make it sound better. check also your amp and xover settings
