I have a pretty old Clarion DRX6575z.
The ribbon that goes from the faceplace connection to the inside of the HU is ripped.
My HU doesn't light up, most of my button don't work, and my CD eject button now functions as the source button. I can turn the HU on but thats about it.

Can anyone estimate how much it is to fix or replace a ribbon?

Generally figure around $100 minimum for labor and parts, depends on how hard it is to get the parts for your older model HU. I would say it's not worth it, unless there is some reason you really MUST have your old HU. Just buy a new one if not.

I bought myself a new headunit and was hoping the clarion was repairable so I can give it to my girlfriend. Gotta go tell her she's stuck with the tape deck.

you might could try to splice each of the wires in the ribbon where they tore. it'll be time consuming, but if you bitch and moan about it enough, your g/f might make it worth your while!
