need help with cd changer

i need help with a 6-cd changer i just purchased. i got it used and it didnt come with any wires, but from what i can tell, all i need is this 13 pin cable that i can get for a couple of bucks. will i need anything else? now, about installation, i plan on installing it in my glove box, for easy acess. my cd changer has this switch on it that needs to be adjusted for if it is facing veryically or horizontally, but when the glove box is closed, it is almost diagonally, what should i do? does this switch really do anything? and for installing the cd changer, is all i have to do is connect the 13 pin cable from the change to my aftermarket headunit? when i install the cd changer in the glove box, is it necessary to bolt it down, or can i just let it sit in there? thanks for all help.

What kind of changer is it? Most likely all you are going to have to do is get that din cable and plug it up (it'll probably be more like $40 then a couple). You are going to want to set that dial on the sides to match how it sits when the glovebox is closed, since you wont be driving around with it open. And yes, mount the changer, dont be lazy about it, that way you wont break off the plug because it was bouncing around in the glove box.

That would be awsome if you had a pioneer changer. Sorry man, but a clarion changer is only going to plug up to a clarion H.U.. Sell that sucker on ebay or something and get yourself a Pioneer changer.

Better yet, just get a HU that'll play MP3s and you won't need a cd changer! You can get between 100-140 songs on 1 disc! They're now as cheap as 150 bucks (Jensen MP3310).

And yeah, different brand names won't work together. They're designed to work with their own brand. That way, you'd have to buy both the HU and changer...more money for them.

Although, in a different situation, some aftermarket cd changers can be adapted to work with the factory HU with an adapter. Crutchfield carries that kind of stuff. Not sure who else might.

The only way 2 different brands will work together is if you have an fm modulated cd changer. Even within some brands all products arent neccesarily compatible, take Alpine, you cant plug an AI-Net changer into a M-bus radio, even though both are current products.

And why spend $150 on a Jensen mps player when you can buy a Panasonic or a Sony or even a JVC for that matter for under $200.

I wouldn't buy one either.
But if the guy's on a tight budget, he might go for the cheapest model, which is why I mentioned it.
I highly recommend going with a better brand name if the money's there.
