multiple DIY trunk struts, which one!?
I have seen 2 DIY for the trunk gas struts.
What I want is to remove all trunk springs and trunk support, and use the gas struts to lift the trunk. I found both of these DIY and I was wondering which would be the best to use?

Thanks, and btw, im new to this fourm, and everyone is nice in sharing ideas/thoughts/comments, really helping me learn about my car.

there are actually many many many ways of doing it. there are 2 factors: strength and throw.
throw is the immediate concern. when you pick a mounting point, youll have a specific distance you need for the strut to travel. then youll need to see if a strut exists that is the appropriate strength for its size.
the strength is based on pivot point, if you go with Grey's DIY naturally youll need more strength than you need my own diy!
just noticed that my diy isnt one of yoru choices, mine the strut attatched to the floor, rather than the roof. better leverage, but need a longer strut, other complications.
but there is no one wya to do it, there is no right way to do it. just gotta see what you have available to you and what you cna do with it.

god, youll never find it, i try to taylor my stuff anyways to specific questions people ask anyways. thats why there are so few threads that are titled DIY by me.
this is a real old picture, but it shows you the route i chose to go. by using a long enough arm to travel to the trunk floor, i was able to position my strut into a position of higher leverage than a small strut at teh top. its not as hidden, and it cna get in the way when im removing panneling, but it was easy to put in, warpage of the lid was not a concern, and i prefer the idea of low pressure versus high (compressing small struts when i was using them was tough!)

it all comes down to which style u like. For Grey's DIY it saves the most trunk space and "better" mount pts. (i will explain "better" later)
and for the Mex, the trunk will not pop open all the way once the trunk release is pull, just like oem.
and for whiterabbit's, i am not sure, 'cause i never tried his style, but I am sure he has his reasons since he's a very knowledgable guy
ok, the definition of better mount pts. Grey used the metal piece that's near the rear speakers while Mex used the actually car's body. For cosmetic reason, Grey's mount pt is better since you don't need to drill holes in the car body and no need to drill holes in the carpet. And you got to becareful when you mount screws into the car body, since you might not know what's behind it.
Personally, I used Mex's style since it is close to the oem style where the trunk only will open by itself once it has been lifted for a short distant. However I only did it one side since it kind of took some of the trunk space and I don't really like that. In return for the one shock setup, i left the old springs on just in case, which may defeats the purpose of installing the shocks in the first place. but the trunk can actually open by itself with 1 shock alone, but i just left springs on for safety.
omg...this is getting long, so i should stop typing....sorry for the long post guys

yeah, i used to have the trunk springs in too, with only one side.
then the springs jsut got too much in my way, i pulled them out. I have 2 shocks, will eventually put both of them in, but for now, the lid doesnt lift by itself, but i can lift it to any point, and the gas shock will hold it there.
I hope it will left by itself when i add the second sock to teh other side.
