Wiring harness search..!

Okay, I know I'm waaaay out of my league on this forum. The knowledge you guys have of cars blows my arsecheeks out of the water. I wasn't sure where to put this, but since there's no 'parts search' or 'parts swap' section...just a sellers kinda deal, I figured I'd post in a generalized thread. Before I get started, I own a 2001 Black Honda Civic Coupe LX.

Well, here's the deal. A year and a half ago or so I bought some of the $20 wannabe HID lights (the halogen/xenon gas combo) and stuck them in my car [BAD MOVE, I know]. The jerks at the shop I bought them from locally never shot me any kind of warning about installing these lights or buying a special harness to compensate for the extra wattage the bulbs require.

Basically, those lights fried the low beams on my wiring harness. I have a real HID kit now (my low beam bulbs didn't stop fully functioning up until a couple days ago) and would love to install them. Though, the kit won't do me any good until I fix one of the pigtails on the harness that hooks into the inside/back portion of the steering wheel. Now, I don't need a new harness, just that one pigtail.

I've been searching locally at several after-market shops etc and have come up empty. I'll keep searching, but I was curious if perhaps any of you knew of any good, reputable shops that may carry what I'm looking for. Local or not, it doesn't matter. I can wait, though it's hard, for the part. Ebay didn't even help. Since I have a 2001 Civic (which is still pretty new as far as aftermarket parts are concerned), it's difficult to come across a cheap solution to this problem and I'll be damned if I'll pay $1,000 at the dealership for an issue that can be fixed for probably $20 or something, who knows.

Anyway, if any of you have any solutions, please let me know asap! Either PM me or slap up a response on here. Thanks in advance for helpin' a n00b in need.

Oh, one more thing...if you need pictures to see wtf I'm talking about, just let me know. Here's a link to one: http://www.killerkabob.com/wiringharness01.jpg . I'll take more if needed.

Thumbs up excellent!

Wow, that's an excellent site. They have quite a few harness parts on there. I'm surprised I didn't run into it while looking on the net.

Though, please excuse my noobness one more time here... but the site asks for emission and transmission type. Is that listed anywhere? Would I have to search my car or the manual for that information?

--Disregard what I just said up there. I'm a moron and it's explained on the side panel of that page what the letter abbreviations are. I just missed it in my initial search of that page.

I'm also a tad confused which part I'd need. Here's a link to a diagram of the harness within the 2001 civic:

First off, I'm assuming the diagram on the left is the dash. Correct me if I'm wrong. If that's the case, I'd need either part 004 or part 007. If any of you could shed a bit more light on this, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for the help you've already given me.

if you're talking about the wiring harness that plugs into the bulbs, you can get them from the dealer for like $15 a pair. I know because I had to replace mine when my xenon bulbs melted them.

The pic you had looked like something else though, so I dunno exactly what it is you're looking for.

Edit: You'll have to take apart the harness and reconnect them using wire connectors or whatever, and if you want I can give you some instructions. Xenon bulbs look cool, but they fúckin suck when you have to replace them every few months .. at least. Anyways good luck man

Yeah, I took my car to a professional yesterday who deals with car modifications etc. and he was saying that all I pretty much need to do with it is yank out all the good wires still in that pigtail and fasten them to a new plastic end piece there. For the melted wire, I'd just cut off the end part of the wire where it's all scrambled looking, attach a new wire and reattach the wire to the new piece. Seems simple enough so long as the control unit itself isn't fried. Then I'm probably screwed and will have to pay up the buttocks for a replacement chunk.

As for replacing...lol, well, I dunno which kind of bulbs you use, but with my first real HID kit I had, maaaan, it was sweet. I swear I felt like I was driving a luxury car! But as far as I know, HID kits/bulbs are supposed to last nearly 3 times more than standard halogen bulbs. Do you use the hybrid bulbs that cost like $5-$70 you can find on ebay? Cause, I think, most normally functioning HID bulbs don't need to be changed often unless you just loooove to drive at night

But, yeah, thanks for offering to help, dude! Anything you could offer I'd really appreciate. I'm going to take more photos today to help show exactly what I need. I am also having a friend ask around for the part as well.
