Unhappy Please help (downpipe troubles) "problem solved"

Me and my friends just installed an aftermarket downpipe (ebay) and a DC header...the sound on my car is absolutely horrible. It sounds like a lawn mower. I'm thinking it could be because i don't have an exhaust yet or maybe they're just bound to sound like a lawn mower because it's a 4 banger. I really can't stand the sound. Anyone have input or help me with this? I was expecting a nice deep tone..a little roar but not a fart can.

edit: I posted here and not in the tech or vehicle problems section because people read this topic more.

with an exhaust it will be loud and deep, none of that ricey lawn mower crap. Personally, I'd recommend the Tanabe Rspec (super racing medalion), but another good choice would be the Greddy or Apex'i, depending on what kind of sound you want.

LOL can you imagine a header & downpipe running to a 1" pipe... HAHAHA. That is for sure the reason it sounds like a lawn mower

haha get an exhaust. here try this as an experiment. take a straw, hold one end of it half closed with your finger tip and blow on the other end. then come back here and tell us what it sounded like

well i found out the problem and it wasn't the exhaust everyone. On the stock header there is like a circle piece that you have to take apart and add it onto the new header and the downpipe so it will further ensure a closer between the two. Unforunately last night we did not know that so that was the problem and found out this morning there was loose air coming out so that's why it sounded like a lawn mower (it was embarrasing). The car runs really smooth now and sounds really nice and deep. I can really feel the difference in HP and torque with the downpipe and header. For all you do it yourselvers..remember to take out that piece...it's amazing how one little thing can cause all the problems.

CivicMexicano- Did you feel the power gains from it? because i did...did it sound like a lawn mower before you found out?

slystad810- yup still stock muffler and still sounds nice and deep. I can hear it around the 1-4 RPM stages but after 4 my intake takes over.

I got a steal...header was around $100 (Mbow) and downpipe was around $70.00 (123Civic) usually retail those two would be maybe $300.00+ for both not each
