Question about headers and cats for the 7th gen...

I own a 2002 4 door dx with only an axle back exhaust. I recently just got a midsection, and was wondering what else is left to complete the exhaust section of my car. What I am unsure of is...

SInce the midsection doesnt go all the way to the stock exhaust header, and isnt even meant for it anyway because the stock header comes down on a hard angle, what would be the best thing to do?

a) Get a header that comes with a resonator, and will that fit all the way to the midsection?

b) Does a resonator act as a catalytic convertor, and if so, are they emmisions legal for the most part?

c) Will I need to get an aftermarket cat and a full header, or just a top peice header?

Any information would help greatly!

since you have a dx, your catalyst is, how can i say this... directly connected to the primaries. the mid section would complete your "cat back exhaust" so to speak. right now, you have the stock header, cat, and downpipe. if you were to get a new header, you would be replacing the catalyst. and a resonator wouldn't replace it legally, so no you would not pass emissions. if you want a new header and have it legal, you would need to relocate the catalyst. but then again, i believe California law states that the catalyst can not be moved or tampered with in any way. hope this helps.

What I dont understand is what parts I am going to need to pass emmisions legaly. If putting an aftermarket header is going to make me fail emmissions, then I could care less about having a catalyst, because I would have to replace it all anyway. In other words, would getting a header with a resonator or race cat fit to the midsection? Also, where can I get a good top peice header so I can fit a cat?

You are gonna have to get a shorty header. This will allow you to keep your cat.

My actuall suggestion would be to make friends with a person at an autoshop so that you can slip them some money to pass the emissions test. THen you could have any header you wanted.
