Is there an actual purpose to this, or is it to make teenagers feel better about their mufflers?

A lot of times the tip is like 80% bigger in diameter than the piping, which makes no sense to me.

I dunno...

These are my mufflers... personally, I'd prefer something that doesn't scrape... that looks similar to stock, but sounds like the TCS or that sport bike-ish sound you get from a Type R/S2000. On the topic of mufflers... I think you'd have to dish out a lot of cash for that sound... like for a Spoon exhaust. Too bad they don't make one for our cars. I think JIC-Magic has one.

The next exhaust I'm considering that doesn't look so "big".

I dunno those JIC-Magic look just as big, if not bigger.

I can't stand the aftermarket muffler tips for our cars. Can't they have one that's medium size, not the size you can stick a watermelon into? I mean, it doesn't help our car, and its embarrassing if the exhaust tip is that big and it still gives you 2 hp. I'd like the HKS if the tip wasn't 90% bigger than the piping.

yeah. that's like the main reason why i'm not getting an aftermarket muffler.

Most B pipes on import aftermarket exhausts are 2-2.5"

thats not that big. For asthetics sake they make the tip larger (and usually polished), mostly because they figure that if you spent 400+ bucks on their hxhaust, you probably want the can/tip to be larger then your old stock one.

Although it is taken to redicilous extreems in a LOT of cases... plus i want a sleeper look. small tip all painted flat black is for me.

Errgh, I hate both of them, the tips are both huge. If I were to change the muffler, I don't want the exhaust polished, and I don't want the tip bigger than 2.25"... but I guess that's asking for too much.

What looks cool about a muffler with a big tip if it barely improves your performance? Urgh, the aftermarket "performance" mods are totally geared towards rice lovers.

u can always just get an aftermarket muffler like magnaflow or the likes, and just have them weld a 2.25" tip at a muffler shop.

In regards to tips for OEm mufflers.. it's for Aesthetics..

For Performance mufflers it all has to do with sound tuning. If they use a 2" Outlet the tuning will actually be lower and you'll get a deeper exhaust sound...but at higher RPMS this usually sounds like crap. Notice how the TCS has a relatively pipe coming from the muffler....

It's very much like tuning a bandpass enclosure for car audio.,,,

For just muffler tips to add to the piping after the muffler..that's just Bling

My friend was trying to sell me one for $300. I heard the sound clip of it and it's almost the sound I'm looking for. It looks okay as it does have a small tip (that sticks out a lil' too short compared to the stock one but which can be remedied with another tip). The muffler itself is slightly larger than stock and I think it looks slightly weird that way from the side as the stock one is hidden. My friends and I are gonna put it on my car to see if I like it or not. I'm more into sound as I can compromise with looks to an extent.

I like the way the 99-00 Si stock exhausts look... bigger than ours, but tasteful and not ricey.

Yeah, magnaflow just has 2.25 inch piping with a tip put on it. I just cut it off and now have the 2.25 pipe and it doesn't stickout and looks a lot closer to stock. I'll try and get pics if you want.

i have the HKS and I dont think the tip is too big.......if you want an exhaust that has the same inlet outlet you can get the ES muffler or the Spoon Sports exhaust (though youd have to butcher it to fit)

that sounds about right.
i have a big monza tip on my factory exhaust, just cut about 8 inches off, and had the tip welded on there. the tip is pretty large, and its glasspacked, so at wot, the exhaust is quieter than it was when it came from the dealership.
