what is a good shorty header to buy? i already have the dc but the pipeing is so small. i need something bigger. i don't want to go with the hp with high flow cat because i don't want to cut my motor mount.

Have the dc header as well. You're right, the tubes aren't much bigger than stock. I saw a guy's car that had the hp shorty header and it was WAY bigger than the dc.
I haven't seen any of the other headers in person so I can't compare their sizes.
Go with the hp shorty if you don't want the race setup. I am selling the dc and getting the hp race when I recover from my recent stereo expenditures.

there is only one thing that is better than the hp header right now and thats the obx header with a custom down pipe, so its actually turns the header into a true 4-1 header thats what i have and i have more gains than people with the hp

the only header you need to drop the engine for is the hp. my advice is sell the dc on ebay for like 180 and buy the obx for 150-170 cause its better since the ports and collector are bigger. which='s better. then get the new downpipe and just get an ex cat for emissions and swap out a test pipe otherwise high flow cats on our cars are a wast of money you only gain about 3 hp max with one test pipe gets 5-8 and getting the ex cat with the header and down pipe combo will still give you about a 7-14 hp gain.

i am not sure about the hp shorty header since i haven't seend it yet. also how big is the downpipe that random tech makes?? with my set up the obx header 2.25 down pipe and no cat i am looking right now for the ex cat so i can pass emissions. i gained about 8-15 everyone that has driven my car felt a huge difference. if i were you i wouldn't get a high flow cat cause even with it on and a silencer in you won't pass emissions since our engines are ulev(ultra low emissions vehicles) which sux since that means they are more strict on our emissions if you have an ex just keep the cat and get a test pipe put in until emissions then out the cat back on. if you have an lx or dx just get the ex cat from someone or get a racing store to give you one from a car they took one off of as long as it is an ex model civic since their cats have been different since like 96 and you will need the bigger cat with the header. they shuld sell it to you for like 40 bucks if not just give it to you since they just throw them away anyways. also with a high flow cat you will not pass smog or emissions in most states and i think you can't pass smog in any with a high flow.

well random technology says that their high flow cat is carb legal i think. here is the link to their site. it is the second paragraph on the bottom. it gets confusing on what they said. "This design, which meets Federal EPA and California ARB requirements, enables virtually any vehicle with a properly tuned engine to meet emissions standards with little, if any power loss" so that mean it is carb legal. then they said "Please note that no aftermarket catalytic converters are legal for installation in California on OBD II vehicles (some 1994 & 1995, and all 1996 and later vehicles). " our car is obdII right? so what does it mean? will i pass smog with it then?

forgot to mention that there's no 4-2-1 header out for our car.. not that I know of... if there's any indication of such.. its usually the manufacture making a mistake or seller making a mistake...
there isn't really a lot of room for a 4-2-1 setup...
our stock setups are 4-1.... the dx/ls is a very short 4-1 setup, while the ex is a much longer one... search on the forum if you want pics of each exhuast manifold setup....

there are a few 4-2-1 combos like hp and kamakazie but they aren't really a 4.2.1 they are a 4-1 with a custom down pipe like i did. and on that high flow cat it may be carb legal but that just means if a cop pulls you over he can't give you a fix it ticket he can just give you one for like loud noise if yours happens to be that loud. and even though they say its carb certified thats with everyhithing else stock if you get a header the high flow cat and striaght pipe to a muffler you will not pass emissions or smog the companies say that is is legal becuase stock it is and they won't make as much money if they say not legal is you modify exhaust tother that the cat
