Chip in key ?

How could I tell if there's a chip inside my car key? I've a 2001 Civic LX. I don't have a remote keyless entry. Is chip in a key a standard option for 2001 Civic models?

Its just a simple resistor really, and about it being water proof you should throw it in the sink or something and see lol

it must be water proof, the chip is surrounded in rubber, no way honda would make a mistake like that, think of all the people that must forget to take their keys out of their pockets

The key is water proof. Even if it wasn't it wouldn't hurt the chip. all it does is let the ignition know the owner of the key is starting the car. Kinda like having the "one" ring you have the one key, or set of keys usually 3 keys. just like embeded credit cards it just sends a signal through the key when you put it in the ignition. Or when you wave the exxon wand at the pump.
