Chip in key ? How could I tell if there's a chip inside my car key? I've a 2001 Civic LX. I don't have a remote keyless entry. Is chip in a key a standard option for 2001 Civic models? |
put it on the ground, smash it, and check. it'll be fun. trust me. but yea they're built in. they're called immoblizers. |
all hondas and acuras from 2001 and on have it standard in all there cars.. and i think some 2000's came with it too.. but yea.. 7thgens and on all have it |
are the keys waterproof then? lol |

Its just a simple resistor really, and about it being water proof you should throw it in the sink or something and see lol |

wow, i really wanna know if they're waterproof now; i hate leaving my keys in the sand at the beach |
it must be water proof, the chip is surrounded in rubber, no way honda would make a mistake like that, think of all the people that must forget to take their keys out of their pockets |
take a look at your key... lol now tell me what its made of.. do you see any holes to take out or put a chip in.. i think u just answered the question about it being waterproof |
put it in a zip lock baggie or something to be on the safe side... |
The key is water proof. Even if it wasn't it wouldn't hurt the chip. all it does is let the ignition know the owner of the key is starting the car. Kinda like having the "one" ring you have the one key, or set of keys usually 3 keys. just like embeded credit cards it just sends a signal through the key when you put it in the ignition. Or when you wave the exxon wand at the pump. |
