How many miles is a water pump good for?
I got this car used with 100k miles on it. It was a lease car and I'm second owner. I don't know if the timing belt or water pump has ever been changed in this car. It's a 1.7 VTEC. The dealer where it was leased has no service records for it either. Will the original water pump or timing belt go 100k miles?

timing belt is supposed to be changed at 90K miles. not 100. if the timing belt breaks on you while you drive go get a new engine. have the timing belt changed asap. well find out first if it has been changed. good luck

Hope you didn't pay too much for it with a 100k on it. But, yes, change the timing belt and waterpump together. CHEAP insurance. If either break, new engine.

I'm not sure that a broken water pump means new engine. As to the timing belt yeah thats a new engine most likely.
Just to let people know my experience, not saying it will be the same for everybody, I had my timing belt changed at 110K miles and when the mechanic showed me the timing belt it looked exactly the same as the new one. I was preatty surprice on how well the belt had hold for that long.

From talking to mechanics over the years, waterpumps used by Honda last on average 150K miles. The reason why people advocate changing the waterpump when doing the timing belt is because chances are the waterpump will not last until the next timing belt change. Because you have to remove the timing belt to get to the waterpump, it just make sense to replace both at the same time. Even though there may be 50K miles life left on the waterpump, if it goes, you'll have to spend the same amount as a timing belt change. In the end, it's up to you. Do you feel lucky?
