dyno testing

hey guys, couple questions. What exactly does dyno tuning do? Does it just test the actual power of the car or can you actually make it run better. Sorry fo the stupid questions but im curios. people keep telling me to dyno it and i want to know what im spending my money on. I tried searching but nothing i found actually said what it is so if you have any input or could link me a post that does, that would be great. thanks for any responses you leave.

I DID SEARCH!!!

A dyno run tests the amount of power and torque your car makes throughtout the RPM band. If you've got a VAFC you can tune your engine on a dyno to make more power. If you've only got the simple i/h/e the dyno is only going to tell you that you spent close to a thousand dollars for about 10 horses.

Don't so both, they would be bumping heads.

As far as if the VAFC/SAFC works. Of course it does, but only if you have a lot of air flow. If your running simple i/h/e then you won't get that much power out of it. But running a ported intake mani and a pnp head, you will see some pretty nice numbers from dyno tuning your SAFC/VAFC.

Yeah, you put your car on these roller things and when the wheels spin it measures your hp to the wheels, and prints it out as a graph.

Dynos measure hp to the wheels. So our cars say 127 (if you have an EX) hp, but that's to the crank. At the wheels it's like 90-100 or something.

When you dyno tune, you can also get a read out of your air:fuel ratio. This is where a lot of tuning comes into play.

and...

"Throttle bodies allow more air flow across the board, so you should
see an increase in power across the RPM board of about 3-5hp."

thats from the other thread about the manifold

That's just the TB, now add a ported intake mani to it and you will see a lot better numbers.

If you wanna go for the DIY then go for it.

Just a suggestion. Dont waste your money on this little BS that will yield no more then 10hp after spending like 1500 or more. If you want to go all performace then turbo, k20 swap or nitrous are the only things that will make a noticible difference...... everything else is a waste of money for our engine. You can go spend all that money if you like slow cars making a lot of noise though.

If you want performence from our Civic and no spend a ton on boost or k20 swap do an all suspension set up because that is the only thing that seems worth it if you want to go the performence route.

Or if you dont care about performence too much you can go all show cuz our cars look really good compared to most on the road. Thats another option.

Also dont let this "riceboy" trend mess with you..... do what you like with YOUR car.

Basically if you want performence fromt he Vic without spending too much $ on turbo, nitrous or swap save your money for suspension or for looks.... or both.
