2003 CRV Maintenance Light

2003 Honda CRV "maintenance required" light not working after 150,000 miles. Is this normal? It had always worked ever 3500 miles before for us to change oil. We missed oil change by over 500 miles.

Yes. I had read somewhere that it only works until you reach 150,000 miles. Do you know if that is true?

False. It's never supposed to quit working.

The maint light in the cluster is an LED (not a replaceable incandescent bulb).. It's possible it's gone bad, or there's a problem with its drive circuit, or the processor in the gauge cluster....... IMO it's not worth messing with unless you want to DIY strip it apart and do some testing and maybe soldering or something.

The simplest and easiest solution IMO is to just put an oil change reminder sticker in the corner of the windshield and get the oil changed when it says to. Write with a Sharpie, it lasts longer than an ink pen.
Low tech FTW.

Re: 2003 CRV Maintenance Light

Oh by the way, the Maint Required light is not supposed to come on at 3500 miles.

Copy-paste from your owners manual:

For the first 8,000 miles (12,800 km)
after the Maintenance Required
Indicator is reset, it will come on for
two seconds when you turn the
ignition switch to ON (II).

Between 8,000 miles (12,800 km)
and 10,000 miles (16,000 km) this
indicator will light for two seconds
when you first turn the ignition
switch to ON (II), and then flash for
ten seconds.

If you exceed 10,000 miles (16,000
km) without having the scheduled
maintenance performed, this
indicator will remain on as a constant
reminder.
