Maintenence!

I have 8k miles on my car and the maintenence light comes on. When should I get my first maintenence?

I have 18,000 miles on mine now & all I have done maintenance wise is change the oil every 3,000 -4,000 miles........I turned that maintenance light off when it came on. My car still runs just fine.
