control arms

I'm having to replace my rear lower control arm and I can get a pair of after market ones for the price of an OEM one. My question is all the ones I'm see say that they are adjustable and recommend professional installation wo why is that they look very simple I like to do as much as I can without taking it a shop. Is this something I could do myself

Re: control arms

Aftermarket companies always say professional instal only. That's their CYA statement so that if something fails do to an installation error you can't blame them if you installed it. If a professional did then you can take it up with them.

Re: control arms

Are you replacing LCA, or are you replacing CAMBER arms?
LCA's are not adjustable. You do not need an alignment after a LCA install, but it does require a special socket.

Aftermarket camber arms are adjustable, and do require an alignment afterwards.
They are fairly easy to install, and can be DIY'ed.
However, please don't buy offbrand/no name camber arms, because if they do fail, they can do a bit of damage.

Re: control arms

wasn't the upper control arms adjustable?

I think the lower ones did not have the ball joint moveable.

even with OEM, it's recommendable to align after, your current ones could be bent and aligned with them.

Re: control arms

I'm replacing the LCA not the CHAMBER the bushing is worn out and I don't feel like just putting in new bushings so I just bought a new OEM LCA from a local auto parts store. But now I'm worried cause it looks a little different which is no big deal but the fit just doesn't look right. They had 2 options both without ABS but one was "except Japan built " I don't think it is but how do I find that out

Your VIN would start with "J" if it was built in Japan.

If it starts with a number 1, 4, or 5 it was built in the USA.
If it starts with a number 2 it was built in Canada.
