i think i have an eacv problem...
4th gen '90 civic hatchback d15b1 engine, fluctuating idle, shop says i've got a problem with my eacv. burnt windings or something, they say, and kindly offered to fix it for me at the low low price of $522. hey, thanks guys. because i totally look like i have cash just falling out of my pockets. $300 or something just for the part alone, and honda's the only one that makes it, they say. that's their idea.
my idea: fix it myself. (WHAT!?!?) yeah. whether that consists of just buying a new eacv on ebay and installing it(they seem to be decently priced on there), or taking out the motor and rewinding it myself...i don't much care. I didn't see any dual point eacvs on there though, saw one mpfi, but i don't think that will work on mine...? i've seen plenty of conversions around though, is that something I should consider?
problems: i'm 18 with very little spare cash, i've hardly ever worked on cars before...and i don't know where my eacv is. i've got a repair manual but it's showing me a completely different civic with an apparently completely different engine bay. google's being no help either.
any help on this subject would be MUCH appreciated.

Re: i think i have an eacv problem...
my 91 lx has its eacv located on the left side of the manifold, just behind the first cylinder. there are two hoses leading to it. one is a coolant hose the other is fuel. two 12mm screws hold it. i have a d15b2, shouldnt be that much diff.
have some rags or paper towels handy as fluids will leak when hoses are pulled
clean with tb cleaner, if that doesnt help go to a junkyard. good luck
