PCM ECU Codes CEL BLINK Code ...and Rant

ok, i found this site in 2001 when i first bought my 7th gen. it was very useful in 2001(maybe b/c of my automotive knowledge was slimmer?). since then i mod'd the 01, sold the 01, moved to a B16 CRX...built it to teh hilt..got creamed by a truck(not my fault) and moved on to a 92 Eclipse GSX. ran 12's with it, got bored and moved on to a 1970 chevelle. now im rollin it at a snails pace wondering why i ever was in such a hurry.. now you know my story.

when i first used this site years ago, it was alot more informing. today i came back to get an ECU Blink Code / CEL Codes print out. come to find out... its not here. sure they have the 12 page OBDII codes, but NO BLINK CODES! come on now guys... its one of the most basic and simple checks for a honda. for gods sake the CEL BLINKS ON THE DASH! you dont even have to exert any energy other than jumpin a wire under the shotty side. but suprisingly enough no one... out of all the uberfolk here, no one cares enough to find it out this info. I know it used to be on here... maybe it is or not. alot changes in 4 years. Im just very disappointed for spending an hour looking for such basic stuff. So on that note, i did find this for a 92-95... if i can remember most of it is the same for the 7G's. like i said..its been 4 years. here is the full post http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1171263 oh and i named the thread that so others may come here and search for ECU Blink code and get this thread instead of waiding around in all the useless crap on this site. i am done... /rant

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Way to check codes on your 92-95 civic.
If you go to passanger side kick panel and raise up the carpet u sould see your ecu. and above your ECU there will be a lil plug. iIts grey. with 2 wires coming out of it. One wire is black with a white stripe and the other is a red with a black strip.. I take a spare piece of thin speaker wire and cut off both ends so that the actual copper of the wire is showion on both ends. i twist up both ends so that they are in a nice point. stick one end of the wire into the fist socket on the plug. The other end of the wire into the other socket. Turn your key to the ON position.. dont start your car. just to the ON position. Watch your check engine light on your cluster. it will flash.. 1 long flash is 10. the quick flashes are one. so if ur CEL goes !.....!!! that is a code 13. !....!....!!!!! code 25. then take the code #'s and hop on this thread and see what it is. i hope i could help you all.

Here is a how to video for checking CEL Right Click Save As

here is a pic of the Jumper to check the codes

correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't those OBD1 codes? Doesn't OBD2 not use the blinking crap?

If i'm right, then your right. You wouldn't have found those here. 7thgencivics are OBD2 and we usually tell people to goto pepboys/advance auto parts/autozone and get the codes pulled for free and then we tell them what the code(s) mean.

Yes, OBD2 has hundreds of possible codes. I don't think you are going to get them by counting 234 blinks. Besides, a simple reader is $49, AND resets the codes.

Things have just changed.

i could of sworn on my 01, i had to get under the passenger side and jump a plug. the CEL would flash like obd1 style. i threw a many of cel in my 01 b/c of my setup. in fact i know it can do that b/c i called the dealership(thats when i learned aftermarket parts are bad on new cars) when i found out it was an o2 from the light flashing. i really dont remember taking it to have the code read..

edit: to make sure i wasnt crazy i started searching. see

http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq/03.php
which came from this thread:
http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=704398
and then i found a guy in an 01 prelude who knew his 'soft code' here:
http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread...int&id=1283071
one more...on this site, i knew it was here well kinda?
http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=13

had to visit some of the old forums but i eventually found it. now you can start troubleshootin in your drive way. keep in mind i didnt say this was the best way, it is just something you can do right when the CEL pops up. i know im hella noid about stuff happenin to my car and i care enough to find out asap. this does the trick

tacheon is on a distinguished road
The service connector doesn't exist on a 2001+ Civic. They are OBDII and you must use a scan tool to retrieve it on this vehicle. The only codes it will blink out on either dash lights or the dome light are multiplex control unit codes, or HVAC codes.
