Question '94 Civic DX Dies When Pressing Gas?

A few weeks ago I put my foot to the floor and then i realized my car was making a very deep sound...I was told maybe my catilac converter was plugged. I brought it to my local Honda dealer for a complete inspection...they told me a lot of stuff... The said my exaust was pretty much finished from manifold to the muffler itself & that I had a slow leak in my gas tank. Not long after the car started dying when I'd press the gas. Now I have to press very lightly to take off or else it studders and seems like it wants to almost die.
Could it be an issue with the hole in the tank and exaust or could it be something else...Like im running on 3 cylinders, and one is just slow and kicks in when it wants.

What do you guys think???
Help me out here...

The cat is generally killed because the engine runs too rich.

Start with the basics:

1) Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and ignition timing -- inspect them.
2) CEL codes?
3) How old is the fuel filter?
4) Check whether the cat is melted and clogged.

the same exact thing happened to my 95 civic ex d16. the problem was my ignition coil inside my distributer. check the resistance on the coil and check the set screw that holds your rotor button on to the crank, sometimes that comes loose and backs out causing the rotor button to move, throwing the spark off of time.
