Oil Leak

So I got a oil leak somewhere in my car and I did the dye/UV method today. I drove the car for like 5 minutes and then I got under the car and used the UV light to see where the leak was. There was oil everywhere even on my exhaust and I couldn't really pinpoint where the leak was, but I saw a couple of spots where there was a lot of oil.

Also I could smell something burning as well. Engine doesn't run hot but when I popped the hood light smoke was coming somewhere underneath the manifold. My guess is that the heat from the exhaust is burning the oil?

I'm losing a lot of oil and idk where the leak is coming from.

The oil is where the yellow stuff is at. Thats from underneath the car.

This is where it's the heaviest. The picture is taken from the top of the car.

All I see in the pics is where the oil ends up. You need to look upward (higher) on the engine to see where the source is.

5 minutes......I'll guess you need the pair of VTEC gaskets replaced, if your engine has VTEC. It's subjected to full oil pressure so once it starts leaking it can leak a whole freekin bunch in a short amount of time.

If you need the gasket numbers let us know or search here for the info. (the dealer can find one of the numbers but not the other, unless they have been through this several times already....they may try to sell you the entire valve because they can't find the one gasket you need.)

Other common leaks might be the valve cover gasket and the distributor O ring.

Re: Oil Leak

Oh yeah, oil dumping onto exhaust pipe can make a helluvalotta smoke when the pipe gets hot.

I did look higher and I saw there was oil coming from the valve cover gasket and underneath the distributor. Both the valve cover gasket and distributor are brand new and I didn't see any UV substance in those areas. I couldn't find any other trace of oil leakage higher then those pictures so I'm really not sure where it's leaking from. Side note: The oil leak got worse the past weak. It wasn't as bad as before.

Any suggestions?

Mess was never cleaned up after repair? Slobs. LOL

so I'm really not sure where it's leaking from.
Well the CV joint and axle can't leak engine oil, it had to get there from somewhere else.
The K member can't leak, oil had to get there from somewhere else.

Gravity says the oil probably came from above.
Wind says it probably began at a location forward of the evidence.

Side note: The oil leak got worse the past weak.
I'm surprised it didn't heal itself LOL

No VTEC? You sure?
Did the VC gasket slip out during install when the valve cover was flipped over? (wait, you said not leaking there)

Check oil filter and oil pressure switch right near the filter.
Double gasket under the filter? Bent filter leak?

WAIT A SEC You just had the cylinder head off, right? How much of this mess is leftovers from that work?

Clean all of the mess off thoroughly and start fresh?

ok when I bought the car there was a small oil leak that I didn't bother fixing. So the oil leak has existed since then it just got worse. I tried using engine degreaser to trace the problem but it didn't help. My thing is that there is oil coming from underneath and a little coming from the valve cover even after I cleaned it and run it, but how is the oil coming from the front of the engine all the way down to the exhaust? Both the valve cover gasket and distributor are brand new so it wouldn't make sense for them to leak but there is oil. The engine is vtec. I can't check oil filter cause I'm away on vacation. And I did clean after the cylinder head job lol

Start from scratch. Clean everything as spotless as possible and get it completely dry.

It's easy to screw up an install. Recheck your work.

The engine is vtec.
LEAK? Wrap your hand around the valve, feel the bottom, and see if you pull out your hand covered in oil.

Right under the radiator hose / distributor. Looks like I have a crack?

Re: Oil Leak

Dist leak, internal or external;
VC gasket corners needed dabs of RTV;
upper half of cam cap/dist shell needed RTV between it and the head before assembly
???

Hard to tell where your evidence originated. Use a mirror to see more?

Clean it again and douse with white powder?

I don't think it can be a head gasket, everything around its outer edges in that area is coolant.
