Re: What's the difference between?
If I pick ...1999 Civic sedan and look up the AC system.....
Add RM on the end of the part numbers for reman compressor...
P2F is for DX, DXV, and LX
P2R is for EX and GX
The main difference I see in the parts is the clutch and pulley set. Doesn't say what the difference is, but they have different part numbers.

Thanks!
Hmm, I went to used parts store, gave them my VIN for my '96 Civic EX, which I was driving at the time and they sold me the P2F. Is P2F the right part...Is it compatible with and will work with my '96 Civic EX?

Re: What's the difference between?
I only have part numbers to go by in my catalog, so according to that.....
Match it up with the compressor you have. Does it match?
Then bolt it on and see. I have a feeling it will.

I went ahead and called local dealer, who confirmed both the P2F and P2R are compatible with my 96 civic EX but could not tell me the difference. They also said I need a "drier" Part#80351‑S01‑A01, which they quoted me $112.07. DAMN... The darn used compressor only cost me $75...Just sayin'! With that said, I have 2 local mechanics that I use and each one quoted me $200 to flush, replace and add Freon...Thoughts?

Re: What's the difference between?
Why? Drier is not 100% necessary every time they tell you. Look at what the filter/drier does and evaluate if it would really be necessary to replace it...
Drier would be necessary if the system has been left open and exposed to moisture.
Drier might be necessary if there was a catastrophic internal failure of the compressor. (If that were the case it would need a condensor too.)
Aftermarket compressor warranties often stipulate they want the drier replaced with the compressor, else your warranty is void.
WHY do you wish to replace the compressor in the first place?

It's getting warmer out there.
And see the following thread. It's been a while but I just went with used instead of reman or new: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...ompressor.html If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: What's the difference between?
Back to the drier issue...... Since the compressor didn't have a catastrophic internal failure (that we know of so far) and assuming the system is still full of freon (will know more when you have the system recovered, freon removed) then there shouldn't be a real need for drier replacement IMO.

If that's the case, I'll most likely forget about DIYing this and go for the $200 deal with the first mechanic, since that's the price to see, if this part actually is good or not. Keeping in mind, the part is guaranteed for 90 days "...given it's installed by someone, who knows what they're doing and has the right equipment".

Re: What's the difference between?
I was looking over your comments i.e. "I hate taking chances on aftermarket" on my previous thread Re-Manufactured or new a/c compressor? Before pulling the trigger on this, I'd appreciate your thoughts on buying a Used ($75, with 90 day warranty) vs New ($500+ with 1 yr warranty) A/c compressor on this 20 year olde girl?

(but I sometimes spend like that on my old truck too, it's 29 years old this year....it needs some bearings in the trans soon and some hoses and a timing belt and and and and)
How much longer do you expect the car to last? (20 seems like a long life here unless it lives in a garage)
Used unit sounds cheap enough but it could have issues too. You have a way to test before buying?
You could keep your compressor (it's already used and it worked, right?) and just fix whatever is blowing the fuse? Bare wires?
If it's shorted the field coil, replace that and the clutch/pulley set?

Turns out you were right and local Honda dealer was wrong...P2R is for my EX VTEC.
Now, I can return the used part and start from scratch.
Good question...I DO have a loud screeching noise coming from what sounds like the passenger side under the dash. The screech occurs intermittently, when I accelerate and I'm concerned that I do not know what is causing it...Any ideas?
Other Known issues:
1) Oil leak from unknown location for as long as I can remember.
2) Banging noise from front left tire area, when I turn the to left; 2-3 years.
3) Body rust in several small but growing areas...Oxidation on several larger areas.
FWIW, the first mechanic quoted me the following for a New aftermarket Denso Compressor with Clutch and Coil plus Drier:$330 + $25-30 Freon + $175 labor
$25 New Drier + $35 labor
$590-$595 TOTAL

IDK...Fan motor, AC freon hiss, HVAC servos if equipped.....no clue and I can't hear anything from here.
