need some help ordering parts

i am trying to help order some parts for my sister 2000 honda civic sedan but i am a bit lost. my dad thinks the issue is a CV joint but my brother in law wants to replace everything including bearings. i got no issue with replacing everything but i am not that familiar with cars. some parts say they are for cars with abs and some are for cars without. i am not sure which i would need. would the cv shafts be the same for both because the bearing for abs and non abs cars seem to be really different spec wise. the shafts don't say there is any difference between them. i am in a bit over my head on this. thanks in advance CW

Figure out what exactly the car needs before you go ordering parts.
See a professional?

If you manage to order wrong parts......dealing with a local parts store may be better than trying to deal over the internet.

Re: need some help ordering parts

we know what the car needs but there are a couple things we would rather be safe than sorry with especially after having a upper ball joint fail as my sister was backing into her driveway in December.

no need to see a professional. installing the parts is not really an issue. just need to figure out what the difference is between the parts

Re: need some help ordering parts

You ask about axles and/or wheel bearings.... There are differences, my parts catalog does not tell what those differences are. When dealing with parts, usually you simply order for the exact car you have.

Seeing a pro wasn't for installation. Seeing a pro was for figuring out which part is really needed.

What problem does the car have? Maybe you only need one or the other.

Re: need some help ordering parts

The axle for use with ABS will have a toothed ring (pulser) on it.

Non ABS axle would not have the toothed ring.

A bad outer CV joint usually sounds like poppitapoppitapoppitapoppitapoppita during a sharp turn with acceleration

Re: need some help ordering parts

There are differences but the catalog only gives different part numbers for various versions of the car. It does not tell what the differences are.

Hondas parts catalog gives 5 different part numbers for a right axle and 3 numbers for the left, and that's on a coupe, I did not look up sedan or hatchback.

Re: need some help ordering parts

i guess it is a good thing i went over there to check things out for myself. apparently everyone is making suggestions based on what my sister has said and no one has taken the car for a cruise or really looked at it. i took it for a cruise and it is not cv joints or bearings. as far as i can tell it is either the transmission itself or the front and rear motor mounts. it has one heck of a bang when it shifts gears. you can see the engine move back and forth when you push the car back and forth while in park.
