vtec solenoid question

I have a 97 civic and when I got it the po said the solenoid was bad but it ran fine without it and it would just make it run faster but use more gas. I'm just wondering if that's true and if I should replace it?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Only code is an o2 sensor I'm getting ready to replace and the engine oil is full. What do you mean by "cell on?"

CEL stands for Check Engine Light

If it runs fine and there are no codes related to VTEC, then I'd guess you don't have a VTEC problem at this point in time.
