Just came to the dark side (airbags)

Hello guys.
I've always been an toyota guy. and well I found a 97 civic for a great price.
The car was running great until i had a small accident with a crown victoria...
The damage was minimum but my airbags deployed. ( 97 dx coupe)
I already bought an airbag set, and the control module. How can I replace them.. I read that I need to reset reprogram my module before installing the new airbags, is there any sensor in the front bumper that i need to buy?
I've actually never been into an accident so all of this is new to me. thanks

Honda does not approve using used parts for SRS.
SRS control unit gets replaced.
All deployed units get replaced. (includes seat belts on later cars when applicable)

There is no programming on your SRS control unit.
It is plug-and-play.
Be VERY careful, it contains the crash sensors.
You could get yourself KILLED if you don't know what you are doing.

------------------------------------

C&P from the Honda website under SRS deployment inspection on 97 Civic:

Inspect all the SRS wire harnesses. Replace, don't repair, any damaged harnesses.

Inspect the cable reel for heat damage. If there is any damage, replace the cable reel.

After the vehicle is completely repaired, turn the ignition switch on. If the SRS indicator light comes on for about six seconds and then goes off, the SRS system is OK. If the indicator light does not function properly, go to SRS Troubleshooting.

--------------------------------------------

Get a proper service manual for your car. It should have procedures for replacing all the parts in question.
Follow instructions TO THE LETTER and you should be ok.

Control unit is usually the last thing to connect.

----------------------------------------------

You will need a **GOOD** T-30 TORX driver for a lot of the SRS stuff.
My favorite is Snap-On, 1/4" drive like this:

I can't afford cheap tools.

-------------------------------------------------

Most people let their insurance company handle all this stuff.

I hear ya. Except for the Harbor Freight mini-torch I use for soldering it's all off the truck. Although I'm sure I didn't have to buy as many tools as you.

...and my 1/4 set is my most used.
