How to fix spoiler light?
How to fix spoiler light?
I have a 98 Civic EX 2 door with what I think is a factory spoiler. It has the row of brake light bulbs in it, and a bunch of them are out. I can't figure out how to get the lens cover off to even see what kind of bulbs are in there. Can someone tell me how to get the lens off - and what bulbs I need to replace the dead ones?

it has leds, not bulbs. pretty much you have to break it apart if possible and wire up your own array (cannot reuse the old ones because everything needs to be wired differently). its usually not easy and a new spoiler is the best option.

you could also get an "aftermarket oem style" which is alot cheaper on ebay and looks the same. usually its made from lighter material too like fiberglass or abs plastic. and it comes with a new led strip light.

the led comes off when you unscrew it, when the whole housing drop
look around it u see tiny lines small enough to stick a tiny flat head screw driver in, the cover pops off then you see the circuit of the led lights,
what i did is i went to a junk yard and find a led light off any spoiler with the same lenght, u can pop it open at the junk yard and just take the circuit led dont take the housing cuz they will charged more, theres only 2 wire to connect whiches positive wire and negative wire, use some base silicon glue
to seal it in so water doesnt leak through, you can do this without taken off the spoiler just use a short phillip screw driver, wish i can show you
but i sold the spoiler to a friend. i hope this help

Re: How to fix spoiler light?
the only problem with doing that is the junkyard leds are already very old and even if you manage to find a working piece, it could start going bad again like the original.

Re: How to fix spoiler light?
Getting those screws out is going to be tough...might want to soak them ahead of time and hope. I tried it once on my 05 and they would not budge.
I have always wondered if it was not just bad solder connections at the pins ?? Though I never saw them flicker just out so maybe not.

those screws was anti rust and i took it out with ease,
the led still work and i took it off a 91 toyota celica , my old one had moist in it and caused the whole thing to shorten out, the led you find off the junk yard have more years of life span,
to top it off its easy to even replace.
