standard to auto

I have a 97 dx auto (ya it sux) and the motor knocks, i have found a few cheap motors for it but mostly stadards. Is there anything you have to do to a standard motor to make it auto? Besides a trans swap. Prob wont keep it to long after swap I want a standard, but wanna keep this one mostly original and dont wanna swap over. Any info helps thanks.
